I have to remember these everyday when I am club fitting:
I cannot make great shots much better but I can absolutely make the bad one's better.
It's not my golf bag.
It's not my wallet.
Some people just want my time, not to buy clubs.

Watched some golf on television Sunday. Not much in depth coverage. I like the early rounds when they are streaming online. Slowing the entire round of a feature is more interesting in my opinion. How did the golfer shoot 68? Grinding out pars or good bogeys in the middle of the round. Putter gets hot with three birdies in a row. Driver goes to sleep, cannot find a fairway but still scores well. That is good coverage not just showing select shots.

Ian Baker-Finch is a class guy.

Something you see every day but may not realize. Think about it and I'm sure you will agree.

We are living in a one handed society. Every day, all day I see people going about their lives one handed. That's their right but is it for the best? First off why do I say "one handed"? Its because they have their phone in one hand, constantly. My observations recently... A lady loading groceries from the shopping cart into her auto one handed, dropping several items. It was good to see her child was big enough to latch on to her so he wasn't dropped as well. Drivers swerving all over the road, yep phone in one hand steering wheel in the other. Put the phone down and engage with the person across the table from you while enjoying a meal. Damn. At the practice range, youngsters hitting two balls then running to the phone. How can anyone improve? Out walking my dog one morning and a lady was standing in an intersection texting. Cars honking, waiting, driving around. Come on!!

Idea: for one hour a day turn your phone off. That's only 1/24th of your day. You can sacrifice that much online time for your children, partner, pet, fellow drivers or even to extend friendliness to a stranger.

You've scheduled a club fitting appointment. Awesome! Congratulations!! Get dialed in for new clubs and start playing better golf. Today's recommendation should be a no brainer but it comes up a few times every season.

Leave the kids at home. I know your kid is the next Tiger and I do appreciate you taking the time to schedule your appointment. It's tough to schedule around the wife's nail appointment or your tee time or Game 7. Any time a kid is on a practice range they want to participate, as they should. However, giving a shout out to Spicoli, this is OUR time. Yours, mine, the next appointment who showed up early, the guy who has a "quick question" or three.

All kids want to hit a few shots to impress mom or dad. Little brother want to do what big brother is doing. They want your attention even when you are mid swing with a driver. They get board and wonder off. Best practice is leave them at home, finish your fitting and then have some great range time with them. Everyone will be more happy.

Things I hear every day as a Clubfitter...

"Well, I used to hit it a lot further."
"Your $20k piece of technology is wrong. I hit the ball 40 yards than its telling me."
"I was hitting the so much better yesterday."
"Don't count that one. I missed it."
"Even though I hit the new clubs a LOT further and a LOT straighter, I really do not see much difference in what I am playing now.”
"Today is just not my day. No, playing 18 holes earlier and just having a three beer lunch has nothing to do with it."
My favorite: "That bad shot was not the club. It was the Indian not the arrow."

Its literally like telling the bartender "You got me drunk."

What's more important, shaft or clubhead?

This is a question I get every day so golfers have obviously been doing some research. My best answer is, "It depends." Ask a club manufacturer, they say its the clubhead. Ask a shaft company and they tell you shaft is the engine which drives the club.

My opinion is they both must work together perfectly. The engine powers a car but it also needs a transmission, tires, gear box, steering column, etc. Everything must work together. This is why it is so important to get a professional club fitting. Match all of the ball flight parameters to optimal and you will have the club which gives you the best chance to hit your best shots. A club fit to a clubhead with the best loft, weighting and shape at the end of a shaft with accurate flex, weight, torque and launch it's just jumping your of your bag to crush the ball. The rest is up to you.

Why get club fit? Isn't it just demoing the club?

I am going to tackle these at the same time. First off golfers who want to "demo" a club have most likely not hit the club and know nothing about it, other than what they have seen on YouTube. Golfers who want a club fitting have made the decision to purchase a club(s) and need dialed in to get the best clubhead, shaft, loft/lie, grip and specs to have the club perform optimally for them. If you want to demo a club do not book an hour appointment, do not expect me to dive deep into comparing your current gamer to my clubs on a launch monitor. During a clubfitting appointment you will have my full attention and all of my technology. We will work together to get the best clubhead, loft, shaft weight/flex/length, loft/lie angle, grip and make sure it fits into your bag well in regards to your other clubs.

Club fitting is a incredibly important part of playing good golf. My best analogy is if you were a marathon runner and wear size 12 shoes. Are you gonna run your best in cool looking shoes your friend wants you to get but in size 10?
