As we move forward in the dynamic weather pattern, we begin with a brief warm-up, bringing temperatures closer to seasonal averages. This respite will be short-lived, as an Arctic front is poised to make its grand entrance next week, coinciding with the Christmas period. This front will usher in a significant drop in temperatures, ushering in an intense cold outbreak.

However, this frigid period will be followed by a temporary warm-up, driven by a robust Pacific Jet stream, which will establish a zonal flow and promote a positive Eastern Pacific Oscillation (EPO). This warm phase will be transient, though, as the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) progresses through Phase 6, shifting towards Phase 7. As this transition occurs, the EPO is expected to turn negative once more, triggering a cross-polar flow and a Positive TNH will likely set the stage for a colder, stormier pattern in January.

For the eastern United States, this will likely mark a significant shift, bringing much-needed winter weather and potentially ending the region’s recent snow drought. This period could very well be the turning point for a more active and snow-laden winter season across the East.
