Over Labor Day weekend, I put some miles on the road, and the best destination along the way was the Lake County Round-Up in Lakeview, Oregon!
It was my first time in Lakeview, and it was nothing short of a great time. The rain seemed to follow me all weekend, so Sunday’s rodeo performance was rainy and quite cold. However, my heart was filled with gratitude and joy, which helped keep me warm! I had the opportunity to borrow a sweet mare named Cinnamon, who looked just like Kermit back home. We participated in the grand entry, helped carry sponsor flags throughout the rodeo performance, and even helped with the kids’ boot scramble!
After the rodeo, the arena was transformed into a demolition derby arena for the annual and highly anticipated Demo Derby. It’s a fan favorite, and now I understand why! Thanks to Tom and Jake, I got to see behind the scenes of the derby and watch from the best seat in the house: the Crow’s Nest. I love to ride bulls, and I can’t do that this year as MRO, but there was no rule saying I couldn’t ride in a demo car! Don’t worry, my board, I didn’t.
To round out rodeo weekend, I rode in the parade alongside a large group of queens visiting the rodeo. After the parade came the final performance of the rodeo, and once again, I got to ride in the grand entry. It was especially meaningful on Labor Day.
