Please join Chris and Dan as they discuss Dan's loop around the Ole Hardrock course. Dan always said he wanted to finish in the daylight, apparently he just needed to specify which! He had a lot of highs and lows and ups and downs (some pointless) out there, but getting the loop done was incredibly difficult for more than one reason.

Please join Chris and Dan as we kick off a three-part series breaking down everything that went down on the course this past summer. Policy Announcement!

Everyone deserves to know they are welcome before deciding whether to apply to the lottery for a chance to run in our event, so today we’re sharing a new policy on transgender and non-binary athlete inclusion.

To sum it up: we want you here. We’ve built a framework we believe is fair, that protects your privacy and your dignity, and that preserves the integrity of the lottery process. There’s now a non-binary division, and we’ll respect every runner’s self-declared gender during the lottery and event registration processes without the need for supporting documentation - no paperwork, no interrogation at the trailhead.

There’s one narrow exception, and we want to be upfront about it: formal eligibility challenges are limited to top three finishers and only through a confidential, respectful process as set out in the policy. Outside of this, no one will be asked to defend their identity.

This policy reflects our best current thinking, and our best current thinking may not be perfect. So if something here doesn’t work for your situation, or we’ve gotten something wrong, tell us!

You can read the full policy at the link in our bio or head over to our website.

Attention Hardrockers!

The Hardrock Hundred Endurance Run uses an objective, data-driven framework to protect runners, volunteers, and staff from wildfire smoke. Using real-time and forecast conditions, the event tracks air quality to determine operations through specific thresholds and a clear decision-making logic.

We will continue to update you as we progress through Camp Hardrock.

Please see the link in our bio or below for the Air Quality Decision Making Framework.

Hardrock is actively and closely monitoring the smoke and wildfire situation in South-West Colorado and the surrounding states. Since Wednesday July 1st a committee consisting of Run Committee, Board of Directors and the Run Director have been meeting to discuss the wildfire situation and the impacts that it has on the Hardrock Hundred. Currently no parts of the Hardrock Hundred course are impacted by the Gold Mountain fire in Ouray with the fire continuing to move in the northern direction moving further away from the course.

Ferris and Doe Canyon fires are pushing significant wildfire smoke into the Silverton area. On Sunday, July 5th AQI was high in the morning, from those fires, which led to the cancelation of day two of trail work.

Please note that San Juan and surrounding counties and forests are under a Stage 2 Fire Restriction, please check your local guidelines for what is permissible during a Stage 2 restriction.

The weather prediction models are coming into consensus for Hardrock week. The “monsoon high” (which steers both the smoke and the moisture needed for our monsoon thunderstorms) will be located west of the San Juans on Monday and Tuesday. This will allow some moisture to creep into the San Juans so we may see some thunderstorms on Tuesday, which could help disperse the smoke in the Silverton area. The high will move eastward on Thursday and by Friday will be parked over the San Juans. This will result in warm temperatures and dry conditions for the weekend. Winds should be light so smoke could settle in the valleys.

This is a dynamic situation so please keep an eye on our social media and website for any run updates that may occur. Hardrock always prioritizes our runners, volunteers, spectators and local communities.
