I heard this at Summer Strong and it was eye opening. You are not always going to have access to everything that you want or maybe need, what are you going to do or what can you do about it? This goes beyond just training; into daily life, nutrition, career, etc. be able to plan ahead and think outside the box

On this Memorial Day, we reflect on those that we lost and those that came before us in service of the US Military. Without their sacrifice and those that continue to sacrifice, we do not have the privileges that we have today.

A great cinematic reminder of that sacrifice, is from Saving Private Ryan and Captain John Miller’s final words to Private James Ryan, “James…Earn This”

Earn this: the next workout, the next day, the next week, etc. Honor those that came before you from military and even beyond to include family and community.

After a long stretch of inconsistency, I have been consistently training again since February of this year. It has started to impact my life beyond the physical improvements. I have regained my the enjoyment of training and it is something I get to do, not have to do.

It may not be at the time I thought it would be, I needed to move things around in my schedule, others have helped me out. It has been worth it.

Check-In #13

Ups and downs of being a parent. Last week I didn’t get a single workout in and the two weeks prior I was only able to workout twice each week. Aside from these ups and down I am still making some progress because nutrition is staying the same. Weight is between 175 and 180.

For the days or weeks that I miss workouts, I don’t sweat it, I simply continue on with the program from where I stopped. There is no need to skip a workout altogether or repeat a week as only a week was missed. It just pushes the end date of the training cycle.

Do you want to look good for summer?

Summer is coming and a good looking body is built through the winter and spring. Depending on what you consider summer time there are about four to five months remaining to make a change to your body and your life - which happens to be just about enough time.

Process for getting a good looking body:

💪 Determine your goals. Be descriptive about what you want your body to look like and what it does for you. Quantify the weight you want to lose or the muscle you want to gain. Make it tangible.

💪 Identify your current nutrition. Take time to track what you eat for 3-5 days. Use an app such as MyFitnessPal or take photos of your food, or write it down on paper, etc. get an idea of what and how much you are eating.

💪 Determine your new nutrition plan that gets you to your goal. Adjust what you eat and how much to move towards your goal. This ties into the next step also.

💪 Resistance train 2 to 5 times a week. Don’t just workout, find a program that you can and will stick to and do it - make it challenging. No matter if you want to lose weight or gain muscle, resistance training is a must.

💪 Consistently track your progress/Be accountable. Continue to track your meals, weigh yourself several times a week to know if you are moving in the right direction, monitor how your clothes fit, track progressive overload in training, etc - this list is not exhaustive. Stay accountable to yourself and your goals. This could be hiring a coach or staying accountable to yourself or some other way.

This is not the only way however this is one of the surest ways to get you to your goals. If you want help executing this, send me a DM Summer Body.

Habits

They have the ability to alter the course of your life. This may seem like an over-exaggeration however it’s true.

Habits, both good and bad have a lot of power. Bad habits can push us into unhealthy decisions with our bodies, relationships, etc. good habits have the opposite effect. Each person can determine what habits they want to maintain or break.

Show me your habits and I can show you a general outlook of what your life will look like in the near future.

I help dads achieve the body they want without getting rid of their favorite foods.

One of the more common thoughts is that getting in shape requires elimination of all “bad” foods and only eating foods that are “good for you”. While there is some truth to this the beginning mindset is more about inclusion instead of exclusion. Increase the amount of healthy foods and reduce the amount of less healthy foods.

This mindset allows for there to be a compromise of foods. It’s okay to have some pizza, birthday cake or burger and fries. However keep it modest and an isolated meal.

The most important part of changing your body is consistent action; consistently make decision toward losing weight and building muscle.

Check In #12

Progress is going as well as it can with my current training schedule. Goal is 4 times a week and I am only getting 2-3 the last couple of weeks due to kids not sleeping well.

Weight is at 179. My nutrition has still been good but due to not training I am not in that much of a surplus on off days.

I still have several months to go, I am still on track.
