Creating a Safer Community In Which All Can Learn Practical, Effective Self-Defense Skills!
WHY SELF-DEFENSE?
Because violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread violations of human rights. Sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking; the violence cuts across all boundaries of age, race, and culture. Anyone can be targeted. According to the American Women’s Self Defense Association, one s*xual assault occurs every two minutes while 97% of rapists will never spend a day in jail. In eight out of ten r**e cases, the perpetrator is someone known to the victim. One in four women will be the victim of domestic abuse in her lifetime. Every day in the U.S. more than three women are murdered by a husband or boyfriend. Nearly one in five teenage girls who have been in a relationship report a boyfriend threatened violence or self-harm if faced with a break-up.
DOMESTIC ABUSE is an entire pattern of behaviors engaged in by one partner in a relationship to establish and maintain power and control over the other person. Physical violence is only one component of a larger picture. One in four women will experience domestic abuse in her lifetime. More than 3 million children per year witness domestic violence in their homes. Children exposed to domestic violence are more likely to have health problems, including getting sick more often, frequent headaches or stomachaches, insomnia, and being more tired and lethargic. MARITAL R**E 10 - 14% of all married women have been r**ed by their husbands. ACQUAINTANCE R**E 80 - 85% of s*xual assaults are committed by someone known to the victim. 57% of r**es occur on dates. 43% of college-aged men admitted to using coercive behaviors to have s*x, including ignoring a woman's protest, using physical aggression, and forcing in*******se. Only 15% acknowledged that they had committed acquaintance r**e. STRANGER R**E Most stranger rapists tend to target their victims from afar, such as seeing her in a parking lot or walking in the neighborhood. Stranger rapists are more likely than acquaintance rapists to utilize a weapon. GANG R**E Approximately 10% of r**es and s*xual assaults are committed by multiple assailants. MALE R**E Approximately 10% of all r**e victims are men. In cases of male r**e, a weapon is used more often, and the associated violence results in more serious physical injuries. 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 7 boys will be s*xually victimized before the age of 18. CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE 1 out of every 5 r**e victims is under the age of 12. 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 7 boys will be s*xually victimized before the age of 18. (Peterson, J. This 4-hour course is designed to introduce you to the strategies, tactics, and techniques needed to win a possible life and death confrontation against a bigger, stronger and committed attacker. This course focuses on building your confidence in your ability to defend yourself and encourages a defiant and aggressive attitude toward an attacker.
The goals of the 4-hour safety and self-defense course are:
• Build your confidence in your ability to fight back successfully against an attacker.
• Begin to develop the mindset that “no one has the right to put their hands on you”.
• Teach you some of the strategies and tactics that you can use to prevent an attack.
• Introduce you to some of the techniques that you can use to defend yourself and win a fight in a possible life and death confrontation.
Topics covered: The Survivor (Or Winner) Mindset; Legalities of Self-Defense; Critical Aspects Of The Predator Mindset; Situational Awareness; De-Escalation; Physical Techniques.
