Summertime Hawgs!
People always ask me “When is the best time to come down to catch a big fish?”, My answer is always the same: There is no bad time, barring a major rain event. Some times of year are unquestionably better than others, but these big fish are still here year-round and still eating year-round. They can be caught. You just have to have an active knowledge of what they’re doing in the different seasons! The fishing in the last week has remained strong! They have been shorter trips and have been producing 15-25 per trip with just gobs of great fish and this week we’ve had some BIG fish up to 11lbs! Thank you to The Miklos Family, The Easterwood Family, The Abaqueta Family, The Edwards Family, The Stellakis Family and last but certainly not least Mike Galbusieri and Bob thank you so much for the business this past week! A standout trip this week was new customer Victor Stellakis and son, while the numbers weren’t crazy at 16 bass for the trip, the size was stellar! Lots of nice fish topped off by their biggest 3 going 7lbs 4oz, 9lbs 6oz and 11lbs!! Love these Summer time heavyweights! Having A Blast!
I’ll say it again, have had as much fun fishing these last few weeks as I’ve had all year! Just a fun time to be on the water! Trips since my last report have been generally producing around 20-30 bass per trip with just scores of big healthy bass. The biggest in the last week was 9lbs. The Turman family for two days, Mike Galbusieri and Bob, Jay Parrish and friend, Jeff Cherry and Jeff Reavis all got in on the action! Thank you all so very much!! What A Fun Few Days!
The Summer can be some REALLY fun fishing! I think it’s been about 6 days since my last report and I’ve had some really great trips in that time! I’ve worked hard this Summer to stay on the fish and adapt to the ever changing water-scape out on Rodman and this Summer has been crazy! But I’ve probably had the most fun these past few days as I’ve had at any point so far this Summer! The fishing has been good and trips have been producing 20-30 bass per day. With several fish the last few days in the 9-10lb class! Just scores of beautiful and healthy bass! Wes Steelman and buddy, Former NFL kicker Josh Scobee and his son and pals, Kevin Fredley and Co., Andy Morris and son and Bill Rimmer have all been a part of the great fishing fishing these past six days! The Fine Summer Fishing Continues!
You have to work for them right now and a true understanding of the lake, proper technique and Summer Time patterns are a must. But the majority of the trips are producing 20-30 bass with a ton of solid fish right now between 6-9lbs. Love the general quiet and good fishing this time of year! Fun Summer Trips!
The fun Summer fishing continues. We’ve been having a lot of fun! Covering vast areas of the Reservoir during our fishing, which sometimes you have to do in the warmer months. It makes for a very scenic trip and a lot of fun and different areas offer different types of fishing! There was a bit of an uptick this week with trips producing between 15 and 30 bass per day, depending on length of trip. I had a really fun day yesterday with longtime customer and former North Carolina congressman Robin Hayes and his grandson Hayes, who is an offensive lineman at Clemson University. It’s always a barrels of laughs with Robin and to know him is to love him! On a short morning trip, we boated 24 bass with two about 8 pounds two about 7 pounds and just gobs of beautiful fish! Getting in on the action this past week was the McMillan family, Mr. Joe Savik was back again for a trip, long time customer and friend Dan Quinton and Buddy, the Dixon family and new customer Jay Brown. Summertime Sweet Spot!
We’re getting into the time of year that I really look forward to! Summer fishing is fun and the water is beautiful! The start is early, the trips are shorter but productive! This week has been a lot of fun! Trips have averaged 20-25 bass per trip with lots of great bass. The biggest in the last week was Joe Saviak’s 9lber. But have had days with MULTIPLE big bass coming over the side of the boat! Just look at the photos and all of the great fish! Phil Kickliter and Buddy, Joe Saviak and crew, John and Wendy Wintermitz, Kamila Makuska and boyfriend, Dominick Reale and pal, Chris Rutkowski and family and Joe McMillan and grandson have all gotten in in the good fishing the last week. Year Round Hawgin!
People ask me a lot, “What time of year is the best time to come?”. The truth is that barring a tropical storm or hurricane creating flooding this time of year, there really is no bad time here! We can catch these big fish year round! Big fish caught in the Winter or early Spring could be a pound or so heavier, but these big fish still bite year round! Just look at these photos from the last few days. Tons of quality fish! Tom Martin, The Ostermiller Family, Jim Plant and friend and Mikey G and Bob all got in on the action. The water is definitely warm and I’ve seen it as high as 87-88 degrees this week. These shorter trips have produced between 15-25 bass the last couple of days, but man we’ve caught some quality fish! The biggest being Jim Plant’s 10lb 2ozer! Folks no need to wait til the cooler months to get that trophy! Just wrapped up a couple of fun trips! Return customer Anthony Alioto and son made it in for another fun Father/Son trip! The dynamic duo boated 39 bass to 8lbs! They caught a myriad of bass between 6-8lbs! Then new customer Kyle Como brought his nephew in all the way from Nebraska and took him fishing as part of his graduation present. This was their first time trying this style of fishing here on Rodman and they did a great job, with both of them boating their personal best bass!! Excited to see what today brings! Family Summer Fun!
One of the fun things about trips this time of year is that I get to take a lot of young anglers and their families out. With kids on Summer break it’s a time of year I get to introduce a lot of kids to the sport. It’s an extremely rewarding time and trips tend to be a little less serious but a lot of fun! Nothing like seeing the excitement on a young fisherman’s face after catching a nice bass! Fishing has remained solid and most trips are still producing between 20-30 bass with lots of nice fish! Trick is still to get in early and out early to beat the heat! Have had the Schultz Family in for 3 days.The Trimble family, Spencer Family and The Soinski Family all in for these these fun trips the last week.
