Sometimes you have to give credit where credit is seriously due.

A few weeks back, on a confined space rescue standby, a contractor made the irresponsible decision to spray paint a large tank without ever warning our team to move our vehicles first. Overspray covered my truck. Their solution? “Just wash it off and live with it.” A jerk move if I’ve ever seen one — but that’s a story for another day.

What I want to talk about today is Dan and John McCurdy of Daniel Sons Detailing.
A good friend recommended them, and they did not disappoint. My truck looks brand new. Not “pretty good, all things considered” — genuinely brand new. And they didn’t stop at the exterior — they went the extra mile and detailed the interior too, completely unprompted.

These guys live up to the name “detailer” in every sense of the word. They didn’t miss a single spot. Prices were more than reasonable, and beyond the quality of the work, they’re just honest, straightforward, great guys to do business with. No upsells, no games — just excellent work at a fair price.

If you’re in the Tampa Bay area and need a detailer — this is the company you call. I can’t recommend them enough, and I genuinely can’t thank them enough for turning a frustrating situation into a truck that looks better than it did before the incident.

Homerun. It works. 📡

Text messaging with zero internet, zero WiFi, zero cell service — no 4G, no 5G. Just radio waves moving data between two handhelds. No infrastructure required. No towers. No network. Just you, another operator, and the airwaves.

The setup: Rattlegram app, two Baofeng UV-5R Mini radios, and the BTECH APRS-K1 PRO Multi-Function Audio Interface Cable (available on Amazon) bridging the phone’s audio to the radio’s VOX input.

I first came across Rattlegram a few years back but never had the right piece to make it click. That changed when I caught Nicholas Brewer’s reel breaking down exactly how to use the VOX setting on these radios paired with the B-Tech cable. His explanation was detailed, clear, and is the reason this worked yesterday. Go check out his reel — full credit where it’s due.

Somebody once forged a letter using the Apostle Paul’s name.

It told a young church that the end had already come. And it worked — an entire congregation was shaken by a document they believed carried apostolic authority. Some of them quit their jobs over it.

So Paul wrote back. And what he told them is one of the most consequential sentences in the New Testament — because it’s the test he gave for telling true teaching from false.

He didn’t tell them to sort it out on their own. He told them to hold to what had been handed over to them, and he named two channels for it: by word of mouth, and by letter. Both. Same sentence. Equal weight.

Here’s what makes this worth six slides. When Paul wrote that, around AD 51, there was no New Testament. Not one Gospel had been written down. No canon existed and wouldn’t for another three centuries.

That question has a documented, undisputed historical answer, and most of us were simply never taught it. This deck walks through six things worth knowing — including the strongest objection to the Catholic position, which deserves an honest answer rather than a dodge.

If you’re Catholic, save this for the next time it comes up.

If you’re not, I’d ask you to read it anyway. The Reformers believed they were recovering something ancient, not inventing something new — and that dispute deserves better than caricature from either side. But it turns on one sentence, and that sentence is worth reading for yourself.

Hawaiian shirt on. 🌺 It’s Friday, which means it’s time to Fire It Up. 🔥

Today we’re breaking down the EDC fire kit that lives in my pack — the one that goes everywhere I go, every single day.

Layer one — what’s in my pockets, always:
A Bic lighter. And an Estela Daily Duo, carrying a Swiss Army Knife and an Exotac Nanostriker. That’s my baseline. Even if I lost the pack tomorrow, I’d still have fire.

Quick tip on that Bic — don’t throw it away when it runs out of fluid. The flint wheel still works. Empty lighter still throws a spark every time you flick it. Keep it in the kit as a striker even after the fuel is gone — free redundancy you already paid for.

Hawaiian Shirt Friday. 🌺 🐅 Since it’s Friday, that means it’s a great time to go fishing. Or — realistically — make a fishing video and then go right back to work. 😂 (yes, that’s a Tony the Tiger shirt!) 😬

Today we’re field-testing something I built.

Picked up an Irwin chalk line reel at Lowe’s. The kind you fill with crushed chalk and snap to mark straight cut lines on concrete. Pulled the chalk line out, spooled it with 30lb test braided fishing line, and epoxied a small piece of closed cell foam to the side as a hook keeper.

That’s it. That’s the build.

Now you’ve got a compact, sealed, one-handed hand reel with a crank, a lock, and a spool that holds a serious amount of line. Rig a snap link and swivel on the end and keep it ready to go with a hook, split shot, or a bobber. Add live bait and you’re catching fish.

Why this works:
→ The housing is sealed and tough — it’s built for job site abuse
→ Crank retrieve beats hand-lining wet braid every single time
→ Line lock holds tension when you need it
→ Compact enough to disappear into a pack or a glove box
→ Costs a fraction of a purpose-built survival reel

This is the whole philosophy behind fieldcraft — look at what a tool actually is instead of what the label says it’s for. A chalk line reel is a sealed spool with a crank and a lock. Fishing line is line. The rest is just seeing it.

Field-expedient doesn’t mean improvised badly. It means solving the problem with what’s available and building it right.
