🥏🐕 SUMMER 2026 WRAP-UP: HOW DID AKRON — AND OHIO — FARE AGAINST THE K9 FRISBEE WORLD?

Another K9 Frisbee Worldwide League season is in the books, and Ohio once again had a big presence, with 12 Clubs and Squads competing around the state during the five-week Summer 2026 Season.

Here in Northeast Ohio, the Akron K9 Frisbee Club took a little different path this summer.

With a relatively small crew, Akron played most of the season under official Skyhoundz rules as part of the League’s Summer Skyhoundz Series. That meant no League handicaps for those competing in Skyhoundz — but it also gave our local Teams a chance to earn invitations to the Skyhoundz World Championship.

Akron finished #79 in the worldwide Canis Magnus Club standings and 6th among Ohio Clubs in the Buckeye Super 8 Division.

And one of our own earned a ticket to the big show.

🏆 CONGRATULATIONS TO OHIO’S STATE CHAMPS

In the all-Ohio Buckeye Super 8 Division, congratulations go to:

🥇 Cincinnati — 2026 Summer Ohio State Champions
🥈 Cleveland — Ohio Vice Champions
🥉 Canton — Ohio Bronze

Nice job representing Ohio!

🌎 HOW OHIO FINISHED IN THE WORLDWIDE CANIS MAGNUS STANDINGS

Among the ranked Clubs:

#8 — Cincinnati — 3,236.5 points
#32 — Cleveland — 1,945.0
#50 — Canton — 1,414.0
#55 — Toledo — 1,268.0
#57 — Burton — 1,167.0
#79 — Akron — 589.0
#87 — Brunswick — 347.5
#102 — Mahoning Valley — 97.0

Four additional Ohio groups competed as Squads, meaning they did not have enough Teams to qualify for Canis Magnus Club scoring:

🥏 Duke’s Windham
🥏 Medina
🥏 Worthington
🥏 New Albany

That gives Ohio 12 participating K9 Frisbee communities stretching across the state.

🐕 AKRON’S SUMMER PODIUM

Congratulations to Akron’s top three finishers:

🥇 Jennifer Earles & Lucy — another terrific season from one of Akron’s consistently strong Teams.

🥈 Mark Vitullo & Vinny — and Vinny snagged a Skyhoundz World Championship Q through the Summer Skyhoundz League Series!

🥉 Carolyn Calvert & Max — rounding out Akron’s Summer podium with another strong performance.

🔥 AKRON’S SUPER 8

A shout-out to the eight Teams whose scores led Akron’s Super 8 effort:

🥏 Jennifer Earles & Lucy
🥏 Mark Vitullo & Vinny
🥏 Carolyn Calvert & Max
🥏 Jeff Schmitt & Dipper
🥏 Taylor Yepes & Butters
🥏 Hayden Burd & Dipper
🥏 Mike Furcolo & Lucy
🥏 Taylor Yepes & Blitz

Great job, Team Akron!

And now we’re done worrying about the Summer Season standings.

It’s Championship time.

Phase 1 of our “come from behind” strategy is complete! 😏

We didn’t want to come out too hot. No sense scaring everybody.

Out of 122 Clubs reporting scores around the world, Akron is sitting in 53rd place. One of the slowest starts in our Club’s 64-season history.

Perfect.

We have to let Cincinnati think they’ve got this thing wrapped up. Let Cleveland, our little sister Club, enjoy looking down at us for a week or two. Heck, let’s even let Burton, you guys are crushing it lately, dream a little.

Meanwhile, we’re over here in the Rubber City doing what we do.
We’ll toughen like vulcanized rubber.

We’ll bounce back like a Goodyear radial.

We’ll rise like a Blimp . . . slowly enough that nobody notices until we’re suddenly overhead.

Four weeks left. Plenty of Frisbee left to throw (and keep in bounds).

In the Buckeye Division we’re sitting in 3rd behind Cincinnati and Cleveland.

Over in the Skyhoundz standings we’re 4th. Kansas City is just ahead of us, and if everything breaks our way, Dacula is within reach.

Anthem, Arizona?

We’ll worry about them later.

Week 1 wasn’t a bad week by any means. We just didn’t have as many big scores as we’re used to. Worldwide it took 23.5 points to crack the Top 40% and earn Canis Magnus points.

Congratulations to Taylor & Blitz, Sam & Ivy, and Corey & Hyzer, our three Canis Magnus Teams this week. Nice work getting Akron on the board.

COME OUT AND PLAY!

If you missed Week 1, call it your Mulligan and come play the next four weeks. We’d love to have every Team back on the field.

Every extra Team helps the Club, and you only need three weeks of League play during the past year to qualify for the Worldwide Championship.

Finally, a huge thank you to Kris, our fearless photographer, for another week of amazing shots. The photos she posts every week are just a small sample of everything she captures. (And seriously . . . isn’t Butter just ridiculously adorable?)

If you’d like to see more, or purchase photos from this season or past seasons, check out Kris’s galleries here:

CHECK YOUR TEAM ON THE ROSTER

When the leaderboards go up, please look over your Team information. Check your name, your dog’s name, breed, division, and anything else that might need fixing. If you spot an error, let your Captain know sooner rather than later so we can keep everything straight for the rest of the season.

See everyone on the field this week.

Onward, upwards, and DOWN THE MIDDLE!

🐕 LAST CHANCE TO QUALIFY FOR THE 2026 WORLDWIDE CHAMPIONSHIP! 🥏🌎

The Summer 2026 Season is underway, and if you’ve been thinking about getting back on the field, now is the time.

This is the last League season that counts toward qualifying for the 2026 K9 Frisbee Worldwide Championship, and there are still 4 weeks left to earn your spot—or simply get some valuable practice before the Northeast Ohio Regional in Silver Lake.

To qualify for the WWC, your Team simply needs to have played at least 3 weeks in any League season during the past year.

If you’ve been sitting on the sidelines or haven’t played in a while, jump into any Northeast Ohio Club over the next four weeks and secure your place at the Worldwide Championship!

🏆 Buckeye Division – Week 1

The Buckeye Division features all 12 active Ohio Clubs, making it one of the League’s most competitive divisions.

🔥 Cincinnati came out firing, posting a huge Week 1 score to open up a commanding early lead.

💪 Cleveland answered with an impressive performance of its own to establish a solid hold on second place.

👀 Behind them, the remaining ten Clubs are separated by relatively small margins, setting the stage for plenty of movement as the season unfolds. With four weeks still to play—and Week 5 serving as a Mulligan Week—there’s a lot of Frisbee left before a Buckeye Division Champion is crowned.

📍 Week 2 Begins Tomorrow!

Come play with us this week:

Silver Lake (Akron):

* Sunday – 10:00 AM
* Wednesday – 5:30 PM

Other Northeast Ohio Clubs also begin Week 2 this week:

* Cleveland – Sunday
* Madison – Monday
* Burton – Sunday
* Canton – Monday
* Duke’s Windham – Sunday
* Mahoning Valley – Sunday
* Medina – Monday
* Brunswick – Monday

Not sure where to play? Leave us a comment or send us a message and we’ll point you to your local Club’s page with times, locations, and contact information.

🌍 2026 Worldwide Championship – Northeast Ohio Regional

The Northeast Ohio Regional of the 2026 K9 Frisbee Worldwide Championship will once again be hosted by the Akron Club at Silver Lake Village Park on Saturday, September 5, beginning at 10:00 AM.

Whether you’re chasing a World Championship, representing your local Club, or just looking to spend a day throwing Frisbees with your best friend, we’d love to see you on the field.

Four weeks remain. Get qualified. Get some reps. We’ll see you on the field! 🥏🐾

Buckeye Division
The always-competitive Buckeye Division is already living up to expectations. Cincinnati leads the way with an outstanding 6,854.0 points, followed by Cleveland. Akron edged Burton by just 30 points to claim third, making that battle one to watch throughout the season. Canton, Duke’s Windham and Toledo are tightly grouped behind the leaders, while Mahoning Valley rounds out the current top eight. With twelve Ohio Clubs in the Division, every week promises movement in one of the League’s deepest regional races.
