Cincinnati Buckeyes Cincinnati Buckeyes 1869 Vintage Base Ball Team Biggest differences? No gloves, of course! They weren't too popular yet in 1869.

The Cincinnati Buckeyes are a vintage base ball team that plays the game as it was played in 1869... the year their more famous historical rivals, the Cincinnati Red Stockings, became the first all-professional base ball team and the only one to go undefeated (with the help of some well-paid former Buckeye players). Today's Cincinnati Buckeyes were formed in 2001 to renew our rivalry with the Cinc

innati Red Stockings, and to help educate and entertain spectators by presenting the game as it was played 150 years ago. While our mission is to educate and entertain, it's also great exercise for some of the finest gentlemen athletes you'll ever experience. Pitching underhanded and "to the bat" is another big difference, with more emphasis on fielding than pitching. A fielder can catch a foul ball on the first bounce for an out, and fair/foul is determined by where it hits first. And in most vintage games, good sportsmanship is valued more than winning. Our home field is Dan Lyon Field, located at the Heritage Village Museum in Sharon Woods Park, just north of Cincinnati, OH. Heritage Village is a small collection of houses and other buildings from the time, further enhancing the feeling that you're really back in 1869. Please check out our coming events and come witness the Cincinnati Buckeyes in action at Heritage Village. Bring a picnic, bring a chair, and bring your heartiest "Huzzahs" for spectacular hits and plays, no matter which team you're rooting for. It's a great way to spend a Spring/Summer afternoon!

I am very sorry to have to inform you that Dave “Big Dog” Brooks passed away this afternoon.
He died peacefully, in no pain, with Laura at his side.
We have known it was coming for a few weeks now, but it still is difficult to accept.
Our club, and vintage base ball, lost our best friend today. Big Dog was always there when the club had a need. He was a great ambassador for the Vintage Base Ball Association. Nobody understands and appreciates how special vintage base ball is more than Big Dog. He will be missed by all who knew him, and, hopefully, remembered by many who didn't.

On a beautiful sunny day in Columbus, Ohio, several teams from around the country took to the field to play America's favorite pastime... the Ohio Cup Vintage Base Ball Festival! Your Cincinnati Buckeyes were cordially invited to this wonderful event at the Westerville Sports Complex in Columbus, Ohio.

The first match was against the Monitors BBC from Chelsea, Michigan. Your Buckeyes took the field as the home team, and the defense was stellar. After a battle back & forth early on, your Buckeyes were victorious, winning by a final tally of 8-2. Huzzah to the Monitors BBC for a fine match!

The second match looked to be one for the ages as the young guns from Frosty Sons of Thunder from Somerset, Pennsylvania, looked to be a worthy opponent for your Cincinnati Buckeyes. With very few errors made and your Buckeyes bringing the sticks, once again, your Buckeyes were victorious by a tally of 11-2. Huzzah to the FST!

Next up, we would face the wrath of the hometown heroes, the Columbus Capitals! And what a game it was! The Capitals won the toss & elected to hit first. After the top of the 1st inning, the Capitals were on top by a score of 3-0. As not to be outdone, your Buckeyes scored 2 tallies to close within 1 after the first inning was complete! As the game headed into the 3rd inning, your Buckeyes trailed the Capitals by a tally of 7-3. The bats for your Buckeyes came alive, and after 3 innings, your Buckeyes & the Capitals were knotted at 7. The Capitals were deflated as we headed into the last inning. Your Buckeyes defense played a rock solid game, leaving the Capitals with no tallies in the final inning. With D***y on 2nd, Yeti hit a screamer to centerfield! With one hand down, the centerfielder had to make the catch in the air so that D***y couldn't just try to score from 2nd base. The centerfielder made a terrific catch, and your Buckeyes are down to one last chance! Drifter steps to the plate and smashes a line drive right between 1st & 2nd base. D***y is running at full speed! The right fielder reaches out and makes a top 10 play to end the game tied at 7 apiece! Huzzah to Columbus Capitals for a fine match!

To the Columbus Muffins & the Ohio History Museum, THANK YOU FOR PUTTING ON ANOTHER WONDERFUL OHIO CUP! We look forward to playing at this field again next year!
