Welcome Back Birds! Doppler radar has been lit up all night long and it isn't from rain, it is the return of the spring migration. The numbers overnight were more impressive than expected. More than 4 million birds were estimated to cross over Ohio with more than 115 million birds in flight over the US, and those birds were flying through the sky (literally and figuratively) at 43 to 47 mph over Ohio which is very impressive. Another big night is likely tonight as that same low level Jetstream, which is fueling ideal conditions, will be around for another night. While waterfowl make up a lot of these birds, we are seeing others enter the mix such as the Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher and the Golden-crowned Kinglet.
