2 Soccer Pickup games - Saturday 5th at 9.30 AM and Monday 7th September 2026 at 10 AM on Signal Mountain

Hey Folks,
Hopefully you had a good week without our game, and are ready to come back out and play. Hard to believe we are already in September. The year is flying fast.
I went to Riverfront nights last Saturday night. It was warm, but a great night, especially when the Journey cover band Departure sang a few lines of Dolly Parton's hit 'I will always love you' in respect for her recent death. The audience cameras were out with lights on, shining like candles, and swaying under a beautiful full moon shining over the Aquarium. Great memories. This coming week is the last free concert for the season. Disco night so I will have my dancing shoes on, LOL.
Having missed our game last week, I am going to offer 2 chances to play this week. Come to one, or both, but don't miss out on some anticipated great games. The weather should be great, maybe a little warm still. So the first game will be a little earlier at 9.30 AM on Saturday. Please don't be late. Then we will take a break Sunday and play again on Monday, Labor Day at 10 AM. Bring plenty of water. Wear a red or blue shirt to help sorting teams if you can. If not white, gray or black will help too. Check out my pages for any updates and changes. I hope to see you there.
The Premier League has started and is now in full swing. I watched a few games last week as we were not playing. Some enjoyable moments and shock results. However, with Arsenal and Manchester City on top, it looks much like how we left off back in May. We will see how it progresses and ends up next May. Enjoy.
Happy Labor Day.
Thanks

Soccer Pickup game on Signal Mountain Cancelled this week.

Hey Folks,
Sadly our game for this weekend is cancelled, as the Signal soccer league has a tournament, and there is no field space. I had hoped we might play a Friday night game, but there is no room then either. I may try and play 2 games next weekend for Labor Day to make up for missing this week.
Last week was hot again, and playing full field took it's toll on some players. We try to play the correct game, and that should include full-field, and so we must get used to the bigger area. It gives us more space to run, and if the youth can play on it, then so should we. I have had more complaints in the past, about being cramped and not enough space to run, and so was rather surprised that people were fussing that it was too big. After all we had 24 players out, which is more than 2 regular teams of 11.
Eric and I rode our bikes again, and unfortunately my bike would not start on leaving for the second time, and I had to push start it once more which is not fun after a tiring game. But at least when running I can ride it the 5 miles back home. Sebastian and step-dad Brian played. Younger Brian was back from his working away in Alabama. Thomas, David, Danny and Andy were back. Dakota and Jack joined us for their second games. Shaun made it again with his new cleats, and his daughters playing frisbee. A big welcome to new player Arden. And finally a great big welcome back to 2 of my old players, Jackson Greer and Clay Gallant. They are such great young players, and I love it when they play with us. They are currently playing with the Scenic City team.
Riverfront Nights is winding down, with just 2 FREE Saturday night concerts left. I plan to go to both. Lots of free local entertainment.
The Premier League had an interesting start last weekend, with varying results, and looks set to be open and a challenging season. Arsenal had a great start as defending champions. We will see who looks strong enough to challenge them. Enjoy.
Thanks

Soccer Pickup game - Sunday 23rd August 2026 at 10.30 AM on Signal Mountain

Hey Folks,
Another HOT game last week. We took several 'Hydration breaks' to help. We had about 21 players out. Eric and I rode our bikes. Brandon played again, and Mike, Marcus and Thomas were back too. Brian, Danny, Jeferson and Caleb all played again as well. Thanks to all those that played. Did you all notice the new (to us) goals and nets. Thanks to CSLA and the soccer league.
This week is going to be warm once more. So we will plan to play again on Sunday at 10.30AM. Bring plenty of water. Wear a red or blue shirt to help sorting teams if you can. If not white, gray or black will help too. Check out my pages for any updates and changes. I hope to see you there. Locally, Riverfront Nights continue on Saturdays. Lots of free local entertainment.
The Premier League starts this weekend, and there are plenty of venues to watch the games if you want to be in a crowd. The Barlery where I watched some of the World Cup is showing a full spread on Saturday. Enjoy.
Thanks

Soccer Pickup game - Sunday 16th August 2026 at 10.30 AM on Signal MountainHey Folks,

HOT and HUMID. That was the takeaway from last weeks game. We had a great group of 23 players. I actually rode my bike, as there was little chance of rain during game time. Oh how we would have loved a cool shower. I took the long scenic route home, to avoid the longest yard sale (620+ miles, not 350 like I said last week). And then I had to race the last couple of miles to my house, as rain started in the distance. I made it back home and dry, with just a little shower after getting home. The bike needed cooling off anyway, although I need it more.

We welcomed back Shaun for his second game. He has now ordered cleats, so hopefully we have him hooked. We had 5 new players, 2 from Nepal thanks to previous player Promish who guided them to us. Also Dakota, Brandon and Jack (from McCallie HS). A big welcome to all our new players. Kevin joined us after a long break and Sebastian's step dad played again. It was a great fun game, despite it still being hot. Did I mention it was HOT. Quite few players quit before the Golden Goal, and we dropped from 11 per side to about 7 due to exhaustion. Hopefully nobody overdid it or got sick. Shaun and I were wiped out for 2 days. Thanks to all those that played.

This week is going to be brutally HOT. I was tempted to move the game to an earlier time, but I doubt it would have made enough difference. They are calling for 90+ and heat index of 107'. So we will plan to play again on Sunday at 10.30AM. Bring plenty of water. We will take extra Hydration breaks. Wear a red or blue shirt to help sorting teams if you can. If not white, gray or black will help too. Check out my pages for any updates and changes. I hope to see you there. Locally, Riverfront Nights continue on Saturdays. I went last week and it was a great show. Lots of free local entertainment.

Last Thursday the Pavilion was named for Patrick Daverson, who sadly passed away last year. He was a former President of the Signal Soccer League, teacher, coach, and had played with us on occasions. I saw several of our players there, including Jeff, Ryan, Coach Mike Goza, Rob Nix and Kevin Rivers the current President.

Now just a few weeks until the Premier League starts back up, and there have been lot's of interesting transfers with new players and managers. An exciting season ahead.

Soccer Pickup game - Sunday 9th August 2026 at 10.30 AM on Signal Mountain
Hey Folks,
Hard to believe we are already well into August, summer is about half over and school just started. This year has flown by, and it will be Christmas before we know it.
Last week was a little less crazy with around 25 players. That is the ideal number, and gives us plenty of space and room to run. Everybody seemed to play their best game in a while, and it was a fun game, despite it still being rather warm. We had all the regulars, plus Jeferson and Caleb joined us again. Billy had his wife watch, and son Aiden play. New players Shaun and Andreas joined us, and welcome to them. Shaun is new to soccer and still learning the game, but had a great start. Thanks to all those that played.
There is a strong chance of rain and storms both days, so we will plan to play again on Sunday at 10.30AM. Bring plenty of water. Wear a red or blue shirt to help sorting teams if you can. If not white, gray or black will help too. Check out my pages for any updates and changes. I hope to see you there. Locally Riverfront Nights continue on Saturday. Lots of free local entertainment. On Thursday there will be a Pavillion naming ceremony for Patrick Daverson, who sadly passed away last year. He was a former President of the Signal Soccer League, teacher, coach, and had played with us occasions. He is sorely missed.
This weekend is the 350 mile Longest Yard Sale in the World. It normally will not affect most of you driving to our game, as the town of Signal does not permit sales. But for those of us who live at the other end of the Mountain, traffic will be really slow and heavy. And if you like bargains, as Sunday is the final day, there will be stalls dropping their prices even lower, so they do not have to take their stuff back home with them. Many private sellers at the end, just take their stuff to the Goodwill drop off at the foot of the Mountain.
Now just a few weeks until the Premier League starts back up, and there have been lot's of interesting transfers with new players and managers. An exciting season ahead.
Thanks

Soccer Pickup game - Sunday 2nd August 2026 at 10.30 AM on Signal Mountain
Hey Folks,
Last week was crazy. It was hot again. We had an amazing 40 odd players out. There were lots on new people and several young players with their dads. Matt had son Neill with him. John had Ellis, and Billy had Aiden. Al and son Connor joined us. Charlie was back and scored a great goal. Marcus, Thomas and Caleb were all back. Doug played, as did Sebastian who brought other members of his family. Jose was back with nephew Daniel, which I know was really tough after their recent loss. Another Kevin, and Heath joined us for their first time. Welcome to them and all the new players. I did not catch all the names of the new players. Heath was actually in the same grade as my daughter Emma in elementary school. Thanks to all those that played, and moved the goals for me.
This week I am implementing some changes. There were way too many on the field last week, and I had some complaints, and apologize for allowing that to happen. However, I also try to let everybody play. For me I spent most of the first half adding players and trying to balance teams, instead of playing. That is not fair on me and spoils the flow of the game. Then I had the request in the second half to split the game. I was already frustrated, and was not willing to waste any more of my game time changing the game. So as we have done previously, if you arrive LATE after game time, you will have to wait and may play in a second small-sided game. I also will not be letting any young players under 11 play with the adults. They will have to kick a ball around, or if enough play their own game. So if you want to play, please be there early and ready to play at game time.
Locally the Nightfall concert series has it's last night this Friday, and Riverfront Nights continue on Saturday. Lots of free local entertainment.

Soccer Pickup game - Sunday 26th July 2026 at 10.30 AM on Signal Mountain
Hey Folks,
Last week was another good turnout with over 27 players out. It was hot and humid again. I am looking forward to some cooler Fall weather in a couple of months, but expect August to be brutal. Kevin, Storm and Gabriel were back. As was Alejandro one of my old Rec players. John had Ellis with him, as did Dudley with son Charlie, who was also on my team quite a few years ago. Danny returned with Ellibern, and we had new player Mia join us, and a big welcome to her. Thanks to all that played, and moved the goals for me.
This week there is a strong chance of rain both days, so we will plan to play on Sunday at 10.30AM. Please be prompt, as too many are arriving late. Bring plenty of water. Wear a red or blue shirt to help sorting teams if you can. If not white, gray or black will help too. Check out my pages for any updates and changes. I hope to see you there.
Locally the Nightfall concert series continues on Fridays, and Riverfront Nights continue on Saturday. Lots of free local entertainment.
World Cup 2026 Update - Well it is all over and done, save for the fallout. As expected the top 4 ranked team were in the finals. Spain beat Argentina in the final in a rather boring game, dominated by Spain and multiple fouls by Argentina. The final game should have been the one for the 3rd place playoff, between England and France. It was a 10 goal thriller with England winning 6.4. It is great that Chattanooga hosted the World Champions Spain, and to think my kids and I were on the fields they trained on. I know we all brought them luck. Well done Chattanooga and Baylor. Now just a few weeks until the Premier League starts back up.
Thanks

Soccer Pickup game - Saturday 18th July 2026 at 9.30 AM on Signal Mountain
Hey Folks,
Last Saturday was another exciting game, with over 32 players out. It was hot and humid, and at the end a little light rain was refreshing and felt awesome. The big storm hit after we left. It was good to see Chris Gato join us again. Like Ritchie he lives in Cleveland, so quite a drive for both of them. Sarah played again, and Steven and Ben joined us also from Ooltewah. Steven had his wife and young son Seth with him. A future soccer player hopefully. Ryan had his daughter Addy with him, in her last game before heading off to college. Thanks to all that played, and moved the goals for me.
This week there is a strong chance of rain and storms both days, so we will plan to play again on Saturday at 9.30 AM.
World Cup 2026 Update - The big 4, Spain, France, Argentina and England are left as of this morning. By the time I send this e-mail, one of them will be on their way out and in either 3rd or 4th place (playoff game on Saturday). The Final is on Sunday. England plays Argentina on Wednesday at 3 PM in their semi-final. I am taking off early from work to go to the Barlery on E Main St. I watched England beat Norway 2.1 there last Saturday after our pickup game. It is a great venue and there were fans of both teams there, yelling, screaming and singing (and rowing). Not sure how packed it will be on a weekday, but I am fixing to find out. Love to see any of you that could join me there.
Finally on a safety note. Please observe the road traffic LAWS. The Police are very good at catching speeders on the Mountain, so please keep to the limits. Also my pet peeve is people overtaking me on double solid yellow lines - no overtaking zones. I have had this happen on both the 'W' road and my street Corral Road. It is against the law and extremely dangerous. You can easily have a head on collision and hurt yourself or somebody else. Every morning on my way to work, I pull over to let cars pass me, that are tailgating me down the mountain. Not only are their lights blinding me, but they are pressuring me to go faster than I feel safe and for my old jalopy. Please be respectful of others on the road, and follow the rules.
Thanks
Clive

Soccer Pickup game - Saturday 11th July 2026 at 9.30 AM on Signal Mountain
Hey Folks,
Well another record. In a first ever, we played on the Saturday 4th of July Holiday, and had over 30 players out. I had expected a reduced number due to folks being out of town, or busy with family and friends, but playing the game early helped I think, and we had an amazing crowd and an awesome game. It was warm and humid, but cloud cover helped. We had 2 teenage Chris's join us again. Sarah was back, as was Ritchie. Elliebern got Danny back out. Luke and Ellis were out with their dads. As was Morgan with dad Patrick. Eli and Trevor played as did Phillip and DJ. Thanks to all that played, and moved the goals for me. Last week I forgot to mention about road closures because of the Signal Parade. As we don't normally play on this occasion I did not think to warn drivers of possible delays. Sorry.
This week there is a strong chance of rain and storms both days, so we will plan to play again on Saturday at 9.30 AM Please be prompt, as too many are arriving late. Bring plenty of water. Wear a red or blue shirt to help sorting teams if you can. If not white, gray or black will help too. Check out my pages for any updates and changes. I hope to see you there with no traffic delays.
Locally the Nightfall concert series continues on Fridays, and Riverfront Nights continue on Saturday. Lots of free local entertainment.
World Cup 2026 Update - The rounds of 32 and 16 have concluded, and we are now down to the last 8 teams in the quarter finals. Sadly all three host teams, Canada, Mexico and USA are now out of the competition. At least they did not have far to travel home. The big guns are left and my predictions are getting closer, but not my choices. I figure the Final will be France against Argentina, but I am hoping for some upsets. Go Teams England and Belgium. Thursday is France vs Morocco. Friday is Belgium vs Spain. Saturday is England vs Norway. And Sunday is Argentina vs Switzerland. I am looking for a watch party on Saturday at 5pm for the England game. Any takers or suggestions? Would love to have a group hit a venue together, even if you cheer for Norway.
Thanks

Soccer Holiday Pickup game - Saturday 4th July 2026 at 9.30 AM on Signal Mountain
Hey Folks,
Last Sunday was a hot one again. The humidity had us all sweating, even though we had some cloud cover and a good breeze. However, it did not rain as forecast, and I am glad no storms, but a shower might have been nice. Eric and Hirsh rode their bikes to the game. All 3 John's were there, with sons Ellis with one and Luke another, for 2 of them. Patrick brought his daughter Morgan too. New players Jonah and Ethan, studying at UTC joined us, and welcome to them. Mo was back after a big break. A big thank you to those who moved the goals, and put them back again after our game. Thanks to all who came out and played.
This week we will plan to play on Saturday at 9.30 AM Please be prompt, as too many are arriving late. There are chances of rain all weekend. Bring plenty of water. Wear a red or blue shirt to help sorting teams if you can. If not white, gray or black will help too. Check out my pages for any updates and changes. We are playing earlier to try and beat the heat, and also to allow plenty of time afterwards for family fun celebrating Independence Day. Hope to see you there.
Locally the Nightfall concert series continues on Fridays, and Riverfront Nights continue on Saturday. Lots of free local entertainment, especially on the 4th.
World Cup 2026 Update - The knockout round of 32 has begun, and in the first game Canada defeated South Africa who are now heading home. Japan also lost to Brazil. And we also lost Germany and the Netherlands in Penalty shoot-outs. I am rapidly running out of teams to support. Go Teams USA, England and Belgium. They all play today (Wednesday 1st).
Happy Independence Day and Congrats to all on 250 years of FREEDOM.
Thanks
