As we look ahead to 2026, I want to share that Wild Roots will be taking a pause from guided trips this year.

My responsibilities outside of Wild Roots have shifted and need to be prioritized for the time being, which means I won’t have the time to dedicate to guiding in the way this community deserves. This wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s one made thoughtfully and with care.

I’m incredibly grateful for the women who have shared miles, strength, and stories on trail over the years. Wild Roots has always been about community, and that spirit continues.

This is a pause—not a permanent goodbye. I’m hopeful for what’s ahead and excited to see how Wild Roots evolves in the future. In the meantime, I’ll still be sharing my own outdoor adventures here if you’d like to follow along 🥾🏞️

Happy Thanksgiving from Wild Roots! While there is so much to be thankful for, one event stands out that I wanted to share.
When I started Wild Roots, I had hoped to share my passion for the outdoors, instill confidence to venture wild spaces, and provide opportunities to explore your own strength. Running a business isn't easy, but these are the moments that remind me why I continue. ✨
This fall, Elizabeth Moores aka Snail Sweeper, shared an adventure with me that brought so much joy to my heart. She is a Wild Roots hiker who attended my first ever guided backpacking trip back in 2022, along with other WRG adventures.
In October, she organized a group of women for a backpacking trip and shared what she learned from her time with us. See photos to read how that went in photo #2 🤗!
THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart, to each and every Wild Roots hiker who has made the leap to explore with me the past few years. It means more to me than you could possibly know.
Keep exploring your wild roots!
🙏

Crisp air, brilliant colors, campfire nights… this trip is THE highlight of fall. And hey—our Hyner Ruck/Hike in September is the perfect way to train the legs (and break in those boots) before hitting the big journey 🥾

✨What a weekend!✨ Sharing a few moments from last week’s PA Hidden Gem backpacking trip.

There’s something powerful about stepping onto the trail with strangers—walls come down, laughter rises up, and friendships take root. This trip had it all: campfire stories, starry skies, breathtaking views, and even a refreshing swim in Rock Run. 🌲🔥⛺

I’m so grateful for the chance to guide and witness these connections—whether it’s new friendships forming or quiet moments of appreciation for the beauty around us.

Stay Wild.

🏞️What PA hike, ruck, or backpacking trip would you like to see for next year? Maybe there is a beautiful vista you think deserves to be the feature of a hike/ruck day?

Meet Lydia aka "Bubbles", our Wild Roots spotlight hiker for July! Lydia brings so much light to any space she is in. She's always ready to help others and somehow finds a way to bring humor to even the most difficult moments. She's stronger than she gives herself credit for and so full of spirit ✨ Were always grateful to have you along!
🥾Wild Roots trips have you attended?
I have had the opportunity to participate in two Wild Roots trips. I did the PA Hidden Gem trip last summer on Old Loggers Path and the PA Waterfalls trip this summer on a section of the Mid-State trail.

The Hidden Gem trip was my very first overnight backpacking experience. It was scary, beautiful, intimidating, inspiring, empowering, and amazing. We had to re-route at the last minute because of the impacts of Hurricane Debby and some pretty dramatic flooding in the area, but it was such a wonderful experience and will forever hold a special place in my memories as my first of many backpacking trips.
💮What is your favorite PA trail, and why?
I think my answer to this question changes every time I am asked, but currently it is the Laurel Highlands trail. I did my very first solo backpacking trip on the southern 30ish miles of the LHHT this past June, ending in Ohiopyle. While it was a little intimidating to take on backpacking, navigating, camping, all of it completely alone, I was extremely thankful for everything that I had learned through my trips with Wild Roots as I was more than prepared for everything I encountered because of those previous guided trips.
🏞️What calls you to the outdoors?
The pretty answer: the sunlight on a particularly soft patch of moss, a creek with little rapids and waterfalls, the sound of crunchy leaves, the smell of that dark brown forest dirt.

The real answer: I hate cardio, and there are enough distractions in the woods that it’s easy to forget I am exercising.
Thank you for choosing Wild Roots Guides🌲
Stay wild, Lydia!

How many times do we pull out a Purple Lizard map on a Wild Roots adventure? More than pictured, I’ll tell you that.

A good map doesn’t just tell you where you are — it shows you where the adventure is. 🦎🗺️ help you find the next overlook, plan your water stops, and figure out what that big ridge in the distance actually is… and along the way, they spark some pretty great trail conversations.

Like that Helen Keller quote they slipped in on the Pine Creek map—it definitely sparked some interesting conversations mid-hike.

Waterproof, trail-tested, and full of hidden gems (both scenic and thought provoking).
