Welcome to American Concepts, your neighborhood martial arts school and home of “Common Sense Self Defense.” American Concepts was founded in 1990 in Shrewsbury, MA by Phillip H. For over 22 years, it has been our goal to share the venerable art of American Shaolin Kempo style martial arts, and through this training, to improve the emotional, spiritual, mental, and physical condition of our studen

We offer a very unique martial arts training experience, striving to offer our students a balance of the best training in their martial art studies while maintaining a fun, accepting and positive experience to enrich their lives and embrace their individual strengths. We believe that our teaching style, the atmosphere of our school, and our family-friendly pay-as-you-go system, set us apart from other martial arts schools and result in an extremely comfortable and welcoming environment. With over 30 years of martial arts experience and many satisfied students, we have something to offer everyone, from in-depth training to one-time self defense workshops, we want to share with you the knowledge and wisdom of the martial arts that we have to offer. 🎉 We are thrilled to share a heartfelt congratulations to our 5 newest Black Belts at American Concepts! They have worked hard… the rank of Black Belt is earned over time, during the every day training & effort, and as they consistently exhibit the skill and qualities that show they are ready. The actual rank test is not easy at all. We are proud of them for their perseverence, commitment, strength, and skill.

🎉 We are also proud to announce 3 rank promotions among our Black Belts; two of them to 3rd Degree Black Belt and one to 2nd Degree Black Belt.

🖤 On this particular day, while not all of our Black Belts are pictured here, and many began their training with us as adults, we were moved by looking at the number of our Black Belts in this group who have been a part of our dojo family since they were wonderful children and have grown into amazing adults.

🙏🏻 We are so grateful for all who choose to be with us at American Concepts. You all make it the special place it is.

THANK YOU to all who made the annual “Haunted Dojo” frightfully fun for all!!
It’s our best guess that this tradition began about 30 years ago with our Dojo community, friends, and family creating the Annual St. Mary’s Haunted House with the St. Mary’s Youth Ministry for 13 years. The tradition continued on a smaller scale at our dojo after that. Great times!! 👻🎃💀🕷️

Celebrating our newest Black Belt!
Ben has been with us at American Concepts since he was very young. He has always been a level-headed, polite, respectful young man. It has been our honor to watch him grow as an exceptional person and a skilled martial artist. He has worked very hard earning this rank promotion. We are thrilled and proud to have him join our group of Black Belts and we are so honored and grateful he has chosen to be part of our martial arts family at American Concepts Martial Arts.
