The Wildcats had a big weekend at the VHSL State Championships down in Virginia Beach. 6 Wildcats completed; Juniors Cam Willis (126) and Aleko Panos (132) competed hard with Cam picking up his first state tournament win, Seniors Mustafa Safi (138) and Ben Fox (144) left it all on the mat with Mustafa losing a heartbreaker in the blood round while Ben pushed through with a 6th place finish! Also on day one of the tournament Ben did something only a few people have been able to do at Deep Run reaching over 100 career victories!! Junior Chinemelum Okerulu (HWT) had a big weekend making the state semi finals before finishing in 4th place. Lastly Junior Brennan Loving put his name in the history books becoming the 5th State Champion in school history winning the 157lb championship!!!!

Well that’s a wrap for regionals for the Wildcats! The team finished with 7 Regional Placers and 6 State Qualifiers. Junior Brennan Loving won the regional championship at 157lbs, senior Mustafa Safi (138) finished 2nd, senior Ben Fox (144) and Juniors Cam Willis (126) and Neme Okerulu (HWT) finished 3rd, Junior Aleko Panos finished 4th and lastly Sophomore Kirill Zubrov (190) finished 6th!! Next week the Wildcats travel to VA Beach for the VHSL state championships!

Wildcats finished the weekend competing hard at the annual Tommy Legge Invitational. Highlights included Seniors Mustafa Safi and Ben Fox winning back to back championships at 138 and 144 pounds, Junior Neme Okerulu finishing 2nd, and Junior Cam Willis and Sophomore Brady Hirschey finishing 4th. The Wildcats competed this weekend at the Mechanicsville Holiday Classic. After a long two days Junior Brennan Loving dominated the competition winning the championship at 157lbs. Senior Ben Fox was back on the mat finishing with a strong 3rd place at 144lbs!!!
