Two weeks sounds like a long time, but on a cruising boat where movement is dictated by weather and whim, it is short.
My cousin must fly home on the 18th. He arrived without a return ticket, so his departure point could be flexible.
For many reasons and lots of back & forth, we are aiming for him to depart from Nassau on Saturday.
When we pulled anchor in Georgetown a few days ago, the plan had been to sail slowly up the Exuma chain. But when we got out into Exuma Sound, given the light southerly breeze, the choice was a slow rolly downwind sail or a lovely close reach to Cat Island. So on a whim, we said, let’s do it & we chose Cat Island.
I don’t regret that magical sail and our time here at Cat. But the forecasts are unreliable, and the winds variable with much from the west. All I have to go on are the forecasts and instinct, so we’re staying another day instead of bashing into the wind to return to the Exumas. The forecast predicts southerly winds Monday, so we have another special day at Cat.
It’s at least 50nm to the central Exumas, so we’ll pull anchor before sunrise Monday, and discover what winds wait on us.
Happy Mother’s Day to all. There is mothering in all of us! ❤️
