2012 Season - Game 10: win 2-0 against FC Buzzkill

The win was necessary to have a balanced record for the season and it was done nicely 2-0 though against aggressive opponents that included the referee himself!! I believe it was Liz (or Kellen?) who scored in the first half and Shawn who scored in the second half from a perfect set by Christy.

After assasinating the referee (with words), a friendly BBQ followed, nice way of closing the succesfull season! I announced I was retiring from the team (after 6 years) due to my moving (soon) to California. It is sad to think I won't be playing next Spring with all my friends, but I am glad the team will continue on (like it has for so long) through our new Team Manager Grant!!

2012 Season - Game 9: tie 4-4 against Sherwood Fusion
Oh meeeen, I can't recall what happens with all these goals, but it sort of goes like this. B&B starts strong (though the neat turf field tricks us by the lack of unpredictable crazy bounces we are so used to), and Shawn quickly scores a goal on a Raphi-Shawn combo. But Sherwood comes back in the game on pretty much their only opportunity of the first half... darn!

Second half, as my Grandma used to say: "you don't change the old recipes" (my Grandma was wise), and same combo Raphi-Shawn see Shawn scoring again! Let's add some super work on the side from Laura and Raphi has a perfect volley nicely saved by the keeper. Well the corner immediately gets transformed by Raphi on a header. Up to that point great: 3-1, seems like we are finally getting our win but... Sherwood freaking fires 3 goals in, WFT!?! So no it is 3-4 and the heat rises as the stupid males (ah yes, I am definitely part of that) on both teams get pi**ed off at blatant fouls from their counterparts. Caveman (that'd be Sherwood's striker) even takes it on Sarah which leads to a yellow for him. Nice way of cooling everyone down and Grant on a counter attack takes a nice shot which the keeper nicely pushes back in my feet for a goal.

So here you go, 4-4, that's how we celebrate David's visit, along with Sarah's "intoxicating liquor" post game... Thanks Sarah!!!

2012 Season - Game 8: tie 1-1 against Omen Meat (blue team)
After a good start against an Omen team short on players, our opponent surprised us with a goal pretty much on their first attempt.
The remaining game turned frustrating with waves and waves of our attacks failing to result in a goal. We managed to get a penalty towards the end of the game, and despite a nice kick from Amy, the goalkeeper added to our frustration with a magnificent save.
The good thing is that like last week, we did not give up and finally managed to find our groove illustrated with more and more goals opportunities, one of which was converted by Jason on a smart header. Too bad it was not a win, good thing it was not a loss :)

2012 Season - Game 7: loss 4-2 against Trapeziod (green team)
I swear there is once a season a game where everything seems to go unilaterally wrong... and tonight was our night! The consensus was that we were better than the other team, yet things turned against us despite us opening the score early on (Laura N scored I believe). Our opponents tied us on a mishandled ball before the half, but nothing was really dramatic by then.
Except the second half saw the Trapeziod team score two beautiful (some will say lucky) goals right over Ben and right below the horizontal bar... and then came a clean header. By that time we were down 4-1. We kept losing possession and even missed a penalty on the post, followed by another shot on the post. Finally a late goal on a shot from Raph (deviated by the defender in his own goal) indicated the odds that had been against us all along finally got lazy, and we started to play to our level... oh yes a bit late: in the last 10 min of the game!
Anyway, it happens and I am glad we managed to come back to our level. It didn't help again to have one sub only, but fault is on us: we could have done so much better! Oh well, next time... next time...
