Sherrills Ford Optimist Our park has an average of 1,200 youth that participate in our athletic activities. Sherrills Ford Optimist has been a huge part of our community since 1975.

Our park is operated 100% through volunteers, and we rely on fundraisers and sponsorship's to keep our park operating for the youth in our community.

Good morning SFO families! We wanted to send a quick basketball registration update. We've had registration open a little over 8 days and the response has been overwhelming. While registration officially ends on 10/31, we VERY LIKELY will have filled all spots by 10/1.

Overall, we're nearly 60% full. However, if you have children in these age groups, make sure you register them sooner than later:

K-1 co-ed: 66% full
2nd-3rd boys: 79% full
4th-5th full: 63% full
2nd-3rd girls: 67% full
4th-5th girls: 56% full

We will be holding soccer evaluations this coming Thursday (August 13) using the following schedule:

All ages are as of August 31, 2026

U8 (ages 6 & 7): 6:30pm - U8 field
U10 (ages 8 & 9): 6:30pm - field 2 (unless otherwise stated)
U13 (ages 10, 11, & 12): 7:00pm - field 3 (unless otherwise stated)

Last call to register for a fall sport at SFO!

We have the following registrations still open:

Soccer:
Academy and U6 soccer are open until 8/14 at midnight. No more applications will be accepted after that. You can register at www.SFOptimist.org/soccer

Softball:
We had an 8U player withdraw. If you have an 8U girl that would like to play, please email softball at [email protected]. Your player is eligible if they are 6, 7, or years old on August 31, 2025

All other fall sports are closed and have a wait list. If an opening occurs on a team, we will ask those on the wait list to register, in the order they joined the wait list.

Registrations for basketball will open in mid-September.

We just wrapped up the inaugural season of SFO Adult Wiffleball! In an exciting defensive battle, our 4-seed team "Get a Wif of This" bested the 3-seed "Super Smash Bros" 1-0 in 5 innings. We're already looking forward to next season!
