πŸ₯ COACHES SPOTLIGHT πŸ₯

Meet our Lady Mavericks Head Coach, Brianna Scholl! πŸ’™πŸ’›

Coach Bri began her coaching career in 2010 and has spent the last 4 years helping grow the game right here with the Sheridan Lacrosse Club.

Before coaching, Bri had an impressive playing career:
β€’ Grand Rapids Catholic Central (2005–2009) β€” Midfielder
β€’ Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, MI (2009–2011) β€” Midfielder
β€’ Grand Valley State University (2011–2014) β€” Defense

Why does she coach?
β€œThe sport gave me and my family so many wonderful things. This sport helped start the Scholl family. I love the game and want to share it with all the girls that I can. It is so much fun and helps you in a lot of life skills. It makes you a better teammate in your job, in your marriage, and helps you down the road with parenting too. So many wonderful lessons can be learned through this sport and it brings you so much joy while you learn those lessons.”

Favorite Lacrosse Memory:
Winning the first-ever GLIAC Championship for women’s lacrosse in 2014.

Outside of lacrosse, Coach Bri teaches elementary PE and is an incredible mom to her three boys β€” Silas, JJ, and Gabrielle. Their family loves playing games, camping, and 4-wheeling together.

Fun Fact:
Coach Bri once coached Izzy Scane, one of the most decorated women’s lacrosse athletes in NCAA history and current professional player for the New York Charging.

Advice for Players:
β€œAlways try your hardest in everything you do. Have a positive attitude. Have fun in this sport while you can because the time goes fast. Stay grounded in faith and hope β€” you can do anything with God.”

Thank you, Coach Bri, for your passion, leadership, and dedication to growing the game and shaping the next generation of Lady Mavericks! πŸ’™

COACHES SPOTLIGHT πŸ’™πŸ₯

Meet Coach Jon β€œBonjo” Bongiorno β€” Head Coach of the Sheridan Mavericks HS Boys Team!

With 20+ years of coaching experience and a lifelong passion for the game, Coach Bonjo has become an incredible leader, mentor, and advocate for lacrosse both on and off the field.

Coach Bonjo first picked up a lacrosse stick in 1987 in Concord, Massachusetts β€” and from that moment on, he was hooked.

β€œI saw some kids throwing a ball with these sticks with baskets on the end. I knew one of them and asked if I could try it. The rest is literally history.”

Over the years, he’s played for too many teams to count, made lifelong friendships through the sport, and has played just about every position on the field at one point or another.

Why he coaches:
β€œTo share and help grow this amazing and FUN game and allow it to help mold and shape kids/young adults into better humans. β€˜Sports imitates life’ is nowhere more prevalent than in lacrosse.”

Outside of lacrosse, Coach Bonjo is a Golf Professional at The Powder Horn Golf Club.

Fun fact:
He has visited 48 of the 50 states!

Advice for players:
β€œMaking mistakes means you’re growing. It’s not making that mistake that matters as much as what you do after making it. You either win, or you learn.”

Thank you, Coach Bonjo, for your leadership, passion, and dedication to growing the game and helping shape the next generation of Mavericks players!

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT πŸŽ“πŸ’™
This week we are honoring Monty Morris ( #5) as he wraps up his Maverick career.

Position: Attack

Favorite Memory: Sitting on the sidelines with Jaeger and Zach, taunting other teams while relaxing in lawn chairs between games.

Plans After Graduation: Go to work.

Monty brought personality, energy, and humor to the Mavericks program, always reminding his teammates to enjoy the game and not take things too seriously. His presence on and off the field helped make the team atmosphere one players will remember for years to come.

Advice to future players:
β€œHave fun and don’t be too serious.”

Words for his coaches:
β€œThank you.”

We’re proud of you, Monty, and thankful for all the memories and laughs you brought to the program. πŸ’›

COACHES SPOTLIGHT πŸ’™πŸ₯

Meet Coach Clayton Burgess β€” one of the coaches helping lead our Middle School Mavericks this season!

This is Coach Clayton’s first year coaching, but lacrosse has already been a big part of his story. He played for the Sheridan Mavericks throughout high school as a Close Defenseman and brings that same passion and love for the game back to the next generation of players.

Why he coaches:
β€œI really enjoyed the game myself, and I wish I would’ve had the opportunity to start sooner. I hope to make that an opportunity for new players.”

Favorite lacrosse memory:
β€œMy senior season in general is my favorite lacrosse memory. My teammates were great dudes, and everything was just a ton of fun.”

Outside of lacrosse, Clayton works in paintless dent repair, enjoys hunting and fishing, and spends winters playing hockey.

Fun fact:
His favorite snack is a tortilla with Nutella in it. πŸ˜‚

Advice for players:
β€œEnjoy it while you can β€” you don’t realize how bad you miss it till it’s gone.”

Thank you, Coach Clayton, for giving your time, energy, and passion to the Mavericks program and helping grow the game in Sheridan!πŸ’™
