Year 1 is in the books!
We just wrapped up our first year as owners of the Shelton Athletic Club, and what a year of transformation it has been.
One of the first things we did was introduce new staff shirts so members could get to know our team by name. Our staff are already so good at greeting people personally that it felt only right to put their names right on their shirts to help them connect with even more members. And it’s worked.
We also updated and created the administrative office where Brian works alongside Mike Bonneville, our Director of Fitness. In that same space, we brought in a state-of-the-art body scanner called Styku, allowing members to track their progress far beyond what a scale can show and actually see the changes happening in their bodies. As the only Styku provider in Mason County, the SAC is now offering cutting-edge, medical-grade technology designed to enhance the member experience.
Over the past year we also worked hard to build a more structured personal training program, creating clearer pathways for members who want extra support, accountability, and results from certified and highly trained experts in their field.
Health and safety were another big focus. Half of our staff became Certified Pool Operators, expanding our knowledge and strengthening the care we provide for our aquatic spaces. Our team also completed HIPAA compliance training as we begin working with more insurance partners.
Throughout the building we made small but meaningful upgrades as well, including new trash and recycling receptacles and hypoallergenic, plant-based wipes chosen with both member wellness and sustainability in mind.
Behind the scenes, we upgraded the technology that runs the SAC. This gives us better and more accurate data to guide the decisions we make for the future of the club and the experience we provide for members. That same upgrade also allowed us to launch our app, making it easier for members to stay connected to the gym wherever they are with on-demand workouts, class schedules, and important alerts right at their fingertips.
For the first time ever, the Shelton Athletic Club was also represented at the International Health and Fitness Conference in San Diego, where we were able to learn from industry leaders and bring new ideas back to our club and community.
This year also included some really special moments for our community. We hosted our 3rd Annual Trunk or Treat, bringing together local businesses and our membership to create a fun and safe Halloween for hundreds of children in our community.
We also celebrated an important transition as we said goodbye to our dear friend Chet in retirement and welcomed two new faces to the team, Kennedi and Matt.
And finally, a huge shout-out to Leighann, Brandon, Charlotte, Kennedi, Matt, Mike, and Mel. The work they do at the front desk and throughout the club truly keeps the SAC running. This year has been a rollercoaster of change, and through every twist and turn they have encouraged us, laughed with us, commiserated with us, and stepped up in ways that have meant more than we can say.
We are incredibly lucky to work with such dedicated and loyal people. Over the past year we have truly become a team. We may not be exactly where we want to be yet, but we are absolutely on our way.
