Today was a great one β€” working the less dominant foot, changing direction in tight spaces, dribbling through traffic, and getting proper technique on passing and ball striking with the laces. Fast paced, lots of touches, and every player left with something to work on.

Each session stands on its own. Whether you've been with us from the start or this Saturday is your first time on the field β€” you'll be challenged, you'll get better, and you'll fit right in. That's the whole point.

Coach Charlie wrapped up Session 1 of Soccer Skills Academy this Saturday and it was a great start. HMS players β€” this is your opportunity to keep developing your game this summer in a focused small group environment. Hundreds of touches on the ball in just one hour, working both feet, and having fun doing it.

Session 2 is Saturday June 13 at SCHS, 8:00 to 9:00 AM for middle school players. Only 16 spots available and no commitment required β€” sign up for the weeks that work for you. $15 per session paid on training day. Link in the original post to sign up!

Session 1 is in the books, and it was a blast.
We kicked things off with ball mastery β€” working both feet, all parts of the foot, inside, outside and bottom, weaving through cones with one goal in mind. And when you made it through clean? You got to scream 'NO TOUCH!' at the top of your lungs. Trust me, it's more fun than it sounds.

In just one hour these girls got hundreds β€” if not thousands β€” of touches on the ball. Fast paced, focused, and every rep designed to build players who are comfortable and confident with both feet. That's the kind of training that actually moves the needle.

Three Bedford County schools represented on day one. A mix of players I've coached before and new faces β€” and every one of them left with better feet than they came in with. That's the whole point.

Session 2 is Saturday, June 13 at SCHS and we want YOU there.
Here's what to expect β€” a fun, fast-paced workout that pushes your limits and helps you improve. Small group, maximum touches on the ball, and coaching that meets you exactly where you are.

No commitment required β€” sign up for the weeks that work for you. $15 per session, paid on training day.

Harris Middle School soccer families β€” Coach Charlie is launching Soccer Skills Academy this summer, bringing Saturday technical training sessions to middle and high school girls across Shelbyville. If your daughter played for HMS or is coming up through the program, this is a great opportunity to develop her game over the summer. Follow the Soccer Skills Academy page for registration details dropping this week. First session June 6 β€” share this with a teammate who needs to know!

And finally β€” the third member of our SSA staff this summer. Meet the Director and Trainer, Charlie Rose.

"Soccer found me accidentally about 18 years ago. What started as a parent volunteering to help has grown into one of the greatest passions of my life β€” coaching hundreds of players across recreational, school, and travel soccer right here in Shelbyville.

10 seasons as Head Coach at Harris Middle School. 5 travel teams. A USSF National E License. Coach education clinics. And along the way, the privilege of watching players develop the skills, confidence, and game intelligence to solve problems on the field and keep growing as players.

But the part I'm most proud of? The relationships. I've coached daughters of coaches. I've had assistants who became head coaches. I've watched players go on to compete at the collegiate level. And I've had the honor of advocating for soccer growth in this community β€” including presenting to Shelbyville City Council to help secure support for our new multi-million-dollar soccer complex.

The people in this photo mean more to me than any trophy. That's Emma on the left (2024) β€” who helped coach alongside me during her college summers and is now a teacher and assistant coach at Shelbyville Central. Carolina is on the right, finishing up her collegiate career at Motlow State and one of your SSA trainers this summer. And the photo below is me with Brittain after her team won the district championship a few years ago (2023) β€” she currently plays for SCHS and is on the nationally ranked Kings Hammer club team and is heading to Nationals in California this summer. Soccer has been a family journey from the very beginning, and that's exactly what SSA is built on.

Soccer Skills Academy this summer is my way of giving back β€” bringing better soccer to a much larger audience than I've ever had before."

Registration and the full summer schedule are coming soon. First session is June 6. ⚽

Exciting news for our soccer community! Soccer Skills Academy is launching this summer β€” small group technical training for girls in middle and high school. Local coaches, college players, and 18 years of experience behind it. First session June 6. Follow the page for registration details! ⚽πŸ₯…

Next up on our staff introductions β€” Carolina Rose.

Carolina is hometown Shelbyville through and through. A product of Shelbyville Central High School, she went on to play two years of collegiate soccer at Motlow State Community College β€” and if you've watched her play, you already know she's the kind of player who makes everyone around her better.

What makes Carolina special as a trainer isn't just her technical ability β€” it's her genuine love for seeing players grow. Watching confidence develop in a young player, seeing a skill finally click, then watching them take it into a game on their own β€” that's what drives her.

Attention HMS girls' soccer families β€” Soccer Skills Academy is launching this summer with small group technical training for middle and high school girls. First session June 6. Follow the page and stay tuned for registration details!

This summer, Soccer Skills Academy is bringing technical training to girls' soccer players across our community β€” supplementing the great work already being done by their team coaches and helping players take their game to the next level.

We have an incredible staff of three this summer, and we're introducing them one by one. First up β€” Lola Cunningham.

Lola is a pure joy to watch play the game. A defender from Leeds, England, she brings international experience, a deep love for the game, and the kind of presence on the field that players naturally want to learn from.

In addition to our Saturday group sessions, Lola will be available for one-on-one and small group training for players who want extra reps. More details on that coming soon.
