SCEA has received a grant to do a cool literacy project at Light Up Shelbyville!!!! It is a Read Across America Grant!!!!!! We will have celebrity reads of Christmas stories and kids will get books to take with them. BTW the Cat in the Hat will be there too!!!!

5th District Outreach to Teach is coming to Shelby County this year. We need volunteers on October 21 at Heritage Elementary. Email James Ray Morgan if you can come help us make a few general improvements to the grounds and building. This is our chance to reach out make a difference for our county and our kids!!!!!!

The Senate Education Committee voted today along straight party lines to strip SBDM councils’ authority to hire principals and revert to pre-KERA days when superintendents had sole authority to choose principals. This bill will head to the Senate floor for a vote as early as Thursday afternoon. Please contact your Senator. Ask them to vote no on Senate Bill 12!

SHELBY COUNTY TEACHERS: We are getting a group together to meet at Anna Simpson's house at 10:45 on Friday to walk up and stand in the human chain on Main Street together for the human chain for the Brown family. I would like to ask SCEA members to make the decision on Tuesday that will make a diffrerence in our profession. Be an educator voter and vote for David Eaton for State senate. Since we are out school for election day, let's have lunch together on Tuesday after you go vote for Eaton. You would have to pay for lunch but let me know if any of you are up for a lunch and where in Shelbyville could we go?
