❤️ This Memorial Day, we pause to recognize and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

🤍We are grateful for their service and for the families who carry their legacy forward. Today is a meaningful reminder to honor those sacrifices with gratitude and respect.

💙As a reminder, we are closed today in honor of the holiday. Members with 24/7 key fob access are still welcome to use the facility during the closure.

🎸 Ever thought about learning guitar? Now’s your chance!

Through a partnership with Guitar Academy of Indiana, we're offering guitar lessons designed for all skill levels - from beginners picking up a guitar for the very first time to those looking to fine-tune their skills!

These fun, hands-on lessons make it easy to learn the basics, build confidence, and explore the joy of music in a supportive, encouraging environment. 🎶 Students will need to bring their own guitar to participate, so grab yours and get ready to make some music!

Whether you’ve always dreamed of playing your favorite songs or just want to try something new, this is the perfect place to start. Classes run June 4 - 25, and meet on Thursday evenings.

📣 Facility Closure Reminder 📣

Just a reminder that the Shelby County YMCA will be closed TOMORROW, Friday, May 15, from 6:00 AM–5:00 PM for scheduled electrical maintenance and a planned outage.

During this time, members will not have access to the facility. Key fob access will be available after 5:00 PM and before 6:00 AM.

📣 Lifeguard Certification Training | May 28 - 29

💦 Ready to take the next step in aquatics - or looking for a job that makes a difference? This May, we’re hosting an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course designed to help participants gain lifesaving skills while creating a direct pathway to employment at the YMCA.

👏 This two-day, hands-on course prepares participants for real-world situations, covering deep-water lifeguarding skills, CPR/AED, First Aid, pool safety guidelines, and emergency response techniques - all led by certified instructors.

👉 Dates & Times:
• Thursday, May 28 | 7 AM – 7 PM
• Friday, May 29 | 7 AM – 7 PM

📍 Decatur County Family YMCA | 1 YMCA Way, Greensburg

Free for current YMCA staff & new hires | $200 registration for the public

Whether you’re interested in joining our aquatics team, exploring a future in public safety, or simply learning skills that can save lives, this course is an investment - with the added potential to step into a YMCA lifeguard role right after certification. Spots are limited, and registration closes May 21!

Know Before You Register:
Participants must meet the following prerequisites: a 150-yard swim, a 2-minute tread without hands, a 50-yard swim, and a 10-lb brick retrieval. Refunds are not available for participants who do not meet these requirements; however, course credit may be applied toward a future lifeguard training course.

💜 Happy Mother’s Day from the Shelby County YMCA!

Wishing a wonderful day to all of the moms, grandmas, mother figures, caregivers, and women in our Y community. We appreciate the many ways you support, encourage, and care for the people around you.

As a reminder, Celebrating Women Week continues through May 14. Women are welcome to use the facility for free during the special, whether you want to get in a workout, take a class, or spend some time at the Y.
