Leadership Shelby County Announces 2026–2027 Class

[SHELBYVILLE, Ind.] September 8, 2026 — The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 2026–2027 class of Leadership Shelby County. The new class kicks off its Leadership Shelby County experience today, bringing together 20 professionals from businesses and organizations throughout the community for a year of leadership development, relationship building and community engagement.

Leadership Shelby County is designed to develop and connect current and emerging leaders while providing participants with a deeper understanding of the people, organizations, industries and opportunities that shape Shelby County. Throughout the program, participants will take part in hands-on experiences, conversations with community leaders, site visits and collaborative activities focused on strengthening their leadership skills and expanding their community connections.

The 2026–2027 Leadership Shelby County class includes:
Luke Asher — HIS Management Corporation
Abrina Baker — Goodwill (The Excel Center)
Beth Ballard — Major Health Partners
Mitch Black — Ryobi Die Casting
Brian Bland — Ivy Tech
Aubrey Burtner — Knauf Insulation
Taylor Coffey — Caesars Entertainment
Jon Gerhardt — NineStar Connect
Jose Gonzales — Shelby County Government
Amy Grabarczyk — Beaty Construction, Inc.
Hannah Harper — Shelby County YMCA
Giana Lavore — Caesars Entertainment
Morgan Martin — Shelby County Co-op
Collin McCartt — Blue River Career Programs
Jes Miller — Jes Miller Studio
Miguel Morales — Indiana American Water
Jennifer Muldoon — Ryobi Die Casting (USA), Inc.
Tori Muldoon — Girls Inc. of Shelbyville/Shelby County
Harlan Nigh — Drilling World
Haley Werbe — Major Health Partners

The class begins September 8 with a two-day opening retreat focused on discovering individual strengths, learning more about Shelby County, building relationships and beginning to understand how each participant can contribute to the community.

Over the coming months, participants will explore many aspects of Shelby County, including local business and industry, economic development, education, government, health and community organizations. Along the way, they will meet local leaders, visit businesses and organizations, and gain a broader understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing Shelby County.

An important part of Leadership Shelby County is putting what participants learn into action. Class members will work in teams to develop and complete community projects, giving them the opportunity to identify a need, collaborate with community partners and use their individual strengths to make a positive impact.

Leadership Shelby County has been developing local leaders since 1988 and has connected hundreds of participants with the people, resources and opportunities that make Shelby County a strong place to live, work and serve.

The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce congratulates the members of the 2026–2027 class and looks forward to seeing the connections they build, the lessons they learn and the impact they make throughout the year.

Big things are ahead for the health of Shelby County families! 💜

We’re incredibly grateful to the Blue River Community Foundation for investing in our mission and helping us bring this new family-centered program to our community. Stay tuned - there’s much more to come!

We’re putting GIFT IX from Lilly Endowment Inc. funding into action to support a healthier, stronger Shelby County! 💙

BRCF is proud to invest in two local organizations responding to important community needs in different ways:

Shelby County YMCA will launch an evidence-based, family-centered program to address childhood obesity, one of the priority areas identified in MHP's Community Health Improvement Plan. According to the report, 25.2% of Shelby County children ages 2–19 are obese. This increase is one of the highest in Central Indiana since the pandemic. The YMCA’s new program will work directly with children and their families to build healthy habits together through nutrition, education, physical activity, and family engagement.

The Salvation Army of Shelbyville, Corps & Community Center will add staff capacity to help meet the growing demand for assistance while allowing its leadership to focus more fully on its core mission of strengthening programs, building partnerships, engaging volunteers, and serving individuals and families in need.

These investments demonstrate the flexibility of GIFT IX funding, allowing BRCF to respond to what we are learning about our community’s needs while strengthening the organizations working every day to address them.

Meet the Jones Family! 💜

For Nick and Ashley Jones, one of the most meaningful parts of their experience at the Julia & Nicholas Runnebohm Early Learning Center has been seeing what their child learns here carry over into everyday life.

They’ve watched their child become more talkative, learn new words and sounds, and even begin using sign language appropriately. And sometimes, the best reminders of that growth happen outside the ELC, when they see something learned here become part of everyday life.

They shared that there is “nothing better than being outside of the center and seeing your child has learned new things.”

Those moments don’t happen by accident. They’re the result of caring teachers who show up each day ready to teach, encourage, connect, and help children grow.

For the Jones Family, it’s also the people who make the ELC special. They describe the staff as welcoming, kind, and genuinely caring about their child’s well-being. That trust has given them peace of mind and made them feel comfortable knowing their child is in good hands each day.

They value that experience so much that they drive about 40 minutes out of their way just for their child to attend the ELC.

And their recommendation comes from that trust: “The teachers are phenomenal and so is the director, Cassi. They provide such a wonderful environment and experience. We HIGHLY recommend the center!”

We’re grateful to the Jones Family for sharing their experience, and to the teachers & staff who make stories like this possible every day. 💜
