Sunday, June 12, 2022 marks the 48th anniversary of the 1974 NHL expansion draft. Among those selected by the Kansas City Scouts was Norm Dube from the Los Angeles Kings. During his previous two seasons playing for L.A.'s American Hockey League affiliate in Springfield, Mass., Dube twice broke the 30-goal plateau.

Dube is pictured below (No. 21) during a game at Kemper Arena. Behind him is Scouts coach Bep Guidolin.

Just happened to checkout Amazon. Apparently, the hard-cover edition is on sale for 30 percent off. Perhaps it's a Father's Day promotion??? The publisher originally WAY overpriced it. "I was 12 and 13 growing up in KC when the Scouts were there. Incredibly there was a lot of optimism when the franchise launched. I never missed a radio or TV broadcast and attended a lot of games at Kemper.

"I bought this book because it was the story I have hoped would be told. I didn't know if the author really knew or could convey it. I have reread the book several times because of the great attention to detail and how it captures the feeling and mood of the franchise.

"All told the Scouts failure was an epic case of a perfect storm that hit all at once. A true gem read!"

On this date 50 years ago (June 8, 1972), the NHL Board of Governors, meeting at Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, granted conditional expansion franchises to Kansas City and Washington D.C.

Hard to believe but early next month will mark the 50th anniversary of the National Hockey League awarding an NHL franchise to Kansas City.

EDIT: Thought I'd add the word "franchise" to the original post. Just goes to show everyone needs a copy editor, preferably more than one. 😀
