College football is officially back—and if Week 0 was any indication, we’re in for a wild ride in 2025. Though the slate was light, with only 10 FBS teams in action, the drama, storylines, and breakout performances were anything but small. From Dublin to Hawai’i, here’s what went down:

The season kicked off across the pond in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic, where No. 17 Kansas State and No. 22 Iowa State renewed their “Farmageddon” rivalry. 4 Nations 1 Cup.

This year the NHL did something incredible, instead of having an all-star game they decided to put together this little round robin tournament the very same week as the NBA all-star week. In doing this they have created something that makes me feel more American as ever, while I do not like to indulge myself in politics I try to keep myself pretty neutral, but with everything that’s been going on between the U.S. and Canada this could not have came at a more perfect time.

Imagine a world where wars are settled on the ice rather than with guns, because that’s what is felt like watching the game Saturday night. Canada decides to boo our national anthem before the game the nine seconds in we see three tillies (fights) at the literal hands of the Tkachuck brothers and J.T. Miller. In the beginning of the game it looked as though the Americans wanted to beat Canada with their fists rather than the sticks, especially when the Canadian hero Conner Mcdavid does what he does and puts one through the net with some top shelf lamp lighting in early in the first period, but the USA would not only beat Canada physically they beat the on the score board as well netting 3 unanswered goals taking down the maple syrup drinking, poutine eating, goose loving foes from the north.

If you have no plans on Thursday night tune in to ESPN at 7:00pm to watch the rematch but this time there is a championship on the line and the USA has already flexed their muscles with the big W Saturday but look for Canada to come back more physical and really turn this in to a massive donnybrook!

This year the goal for me is to really hone in on blogging and improving as a self-taught sports writer. I have a long way to go, and it will take work and commitment but as the year progresses, I hope that everyone will engage and recognize the improvements. Starting this week, I will be putting out solo episodes for the podcast and eventually video content, with that being said I am open to any criticism and encouragement that anyone is willing to send my way. The big thing I will ask from everyone is to like a share all content if possible, currently the podcast will be released as audio only via spotify, but as the year progresses it will be on all platforms and even in video format on youtube. This is not just a sports podcast I look to test my boundaries diving into pop culture, popular books, cooking, and other trends, as mentioned earlier any and all input is welcome and please please please like and share!

On Tuesday October 15th we had a slate of games involving a few teams with less than stellar records. Those teams are all still playing hard vying for a bowl game berth to have that one last game together, because no team really wants to end their season the last regular season game.



The first game of the night involved a rivalry matchup between the Troy Trojans (1-5) and the South Alabama Jaguars (2-4). South is looking to end this 6-game losing streak versus the Trojans and make this rivalry a little less lopsided. South takes the victory tonight with a dominating win beating Troy 25-9, the Jags defense help the Trojan offense in check all night forcing 3 turnovers and holding them to only 172 total yards. In this game South had something to prove as they are tired of being the little brother in this rivalry and they did just that, making troy look disoriented all game long. The Jags controlled the line of scrimmage from the start of the game and easily held the Trojans run game to only 1.6 yards per attempt and boasting 3 sacks and 5 tackles for loss. While the Trojans were picked to finish high in the Sun Belt in the pre-season they have stumbled to a 1-6 record taking the loss tonight in Gerad Parkers first year at the helm. Parker looks to rebuild this program and bring it back to its former dominance in the Sun Belt, but they look to be a long way away. Troy tonight showed flashes of being successful but could not capitalize on the big plays and just tried to force the ball down the field making costly mistakes, however they were able to put together a drive late in the 4th quarter scoring a touchdown from the arm of Matt Caldwell but was unable to complete the extra point adding insult to injury. South now has a good shot at making a run at a bowl game improving to 3-4 tonight, but they still have a lot to clean up with discipline, having 9 penalties for 100 yards is not good in any game, fortunately they were able to execute on big plays offensively and defensively. I am very excited to continue to follow to culture that head coach Major Applewhite is building at South Alabama and I hope they have a successful season.





The second game of the night features Kennesaw State (0-5) versus Middle Tennesse State (1-5). This is the first ever matchup between these two programs as this is Kennesaw States first year at the FBS level and in the Conference USA, neither team has fared to well this year as they have looked over matched against their opponents all year long. While this game was not pretty it was still a very fun game to watch with MTSU taking the win 14-5, yes 5 over Kennesaw State. Both teams tried to establish the run game all night long but both defenses stood their ground well but the deciding factor was the Quarter Back of MTSU Nicholas Vattiato making plays in crucial moments with his arm. The MTSU offense done a really good job between the goal line but was only able to score one offensive touchdown by Running Back Jekail Middlebrook who had 11 carries for 42 yards. Kennesaw State looked like they were just one play away late in the game from getting their first win of the season but was not able to execute on a big 4th down play but came up a half yard short, now they still have a lot they can build off of after this week with the defense doing a great job of forcing two turnovers and keeping the MTSU run game in check for most of the game, but if they want to build success and close out the year on a high not they really have to get their QB position under wraps.



The third and final game of the night is between New Mexico State (1-5) hosting Louisianna Tech (2-3) in their 13th matchup against each other and second as conference opponents. This is yet again another game tonight were both teams are trying to turn their seasons around and get things going forward. This game was exciting it was back and forth all game long with multiple lead changes and New Mexico State scoring late to tie the game and LT had a chance to secure the win in regulation by driving down to the 9-yard line but the Aggies held strong by blocking the field goal to send it in to overtime. Ultimately New Mexico State was able to take the victory in double overtime 33-30 from a heavy run game and good ex*****on. The Bulldogs seemed like they could have won that game late if they would have stuck to the run game behind that massive offensive line but the coach seemed to want to throw every time they got in a 3rd and short situation and it cost them the victory. Both teams played great and it looks like the Aggies have found something with Nunez at QB being able to change the game with his legs and I cannot wait to see if they can continue that success with him and finish out the year strong.
