M. M. Utz's Tae Kwon Do Institute M. Utz's Tae Kwon Do Institute Welcome to the M. Utz’s Tae Kwon Do Institute. No martial artist is complete with only physical skills.

Utz’s Tae Kwon Do Institute is based on Grandmaster Tong Choo Choi’s style of martial arts and is a member of the World Self Defense Arts Association.
“What is World Self Defense Arts”? Because there is not one perfect martial art for any given self defense situation Grandmaster Tong Choo Choi developed a comprehensive self defense system by combining the most effective, practical techniques from

Hapkido, Judo, Jujitsu, and Karate with a foundation built on traditional Tae Kwon Do. Therefore, World Self Defense Arts techniques include not only the high, powerful kicks of Tae Kwon Do but also joint locks, throws, pressure points, ground fighting and grappling. Traditional philosophy, respect, responsibility, discipline and courtesy are taught and reinforced in every class. All of our instructors have earned their rank under the direct guidance of GrandmasterTong Choo Choi and are legitimately qualified martial arts instructors with their student’s best interests always a primary goal. Our focus is on traditional martial arts training for the purpose of self defense, fitness, discipline, confidence, coordination and motivation.

'It's great to reminisce about good memories of my past. It was enjoyable when it was today. So learning to enjoy today has two benefits: it gives me happiness right now, and it becomes a good memory later.'

The Gentleman on the left looking at the picture is my Friend Grandmaster Gary Music. He and I started and trained at our first Dojang together. He just celebrated 50 years in the Martial Arts and was promoted to 10th Dan Black Belt by his organization. The Gentleman in the middle is my Friend Mister Eddie Noble. I was a good friends with his Instructor Mr. Oliver Harris. I had the honor to watch him start and grow in Tae Kwon Do. Those of you that have ever trained in the Mansfield area should know and remember these giants names in the Martial Arts. August 6, 2022

On September 9, 1981, I brought my TaeKwon Do school (A Korean Martial Art) to Shelby Ohio from Mansfield Ohio and opened for classes at 66 1/2 West Main Street. The original name was Central Ohio Martial Arts Academy (the sign I painted is still visible above the door) which I later renamed to the M . M. Utz’s Tae Kwon Do Institute in 1982. I was located at 66 1/2 West Main Street from 1981-1985 I then moved the Studio to 36 East Main Street ( the present Tattoo Business location) from 1985-1991 then purchased and moved to my last location at 34 West Main Street where I was there from 1991-2019. I had 3 locations and taught students in downtown Shelby for 39 years.

This is why I’m so disappointed with the High Ranks in the organization. Read the date and my message
