As we begin to wrap up our look back at the Wonderful Ride we had with "Back To The Beach" I wanted to let you know how your running, sponsoring, volunteering and just general support of our little group of runners impacted several local charities, great groups and supported the trails in our area. We started out with the hope of raising some funds to support the local chapter of Medals4Mettle and buy a few ribbons to be able to put some smiles on the faces of children in local hospitals. Well, thanks to you all, we have done that over 10,500 times. I never ever thought of a number like that starting out back so many years ago. I think we had around 15,000 people run Back To The Beach and Sun Of A Beach over the years, which again we hoped for maybe 300 runners the first year and stopped taking registrations at 750!!! The Wonderful News I am getting too is that in total you all helped to donate over $237,000.00 ... Congratulations to you all!

I hope the memories keep coming in ... THANKS EVERYONE!

Hi Everyone, as you know we no longer hold our little Back To The Beach race and are just about to close down the books with the last couple of donations going out soon.
Just wanted to once again express our humble appreciation to everyone for the support over the 13 years of getting from the thought of a little run thru the years of getting together the weekend after Mother's Day.
Lot's of fun memories are popping up on facebook for me and I am enjoying each and everyone one of them. If you have some time and want to share pictures or memories with our great group on this page please do so!
Here is a couple pictures to start with ... who would have ever guessed this would happen.

Hi everyone ... I hope you can take a peak at this and see if it will fit into your running schedule. A fun new 5k is being put on by our friend Leigh Ann Hindelang Knaus ... here is her write up:

Southeast MI friends...I am part of a volunteer team organizing a 5k/1 mile Family Fun Walk/Run as the kick-off event to our annual Scarecrow Festival - Sunday, October 2nd.
If you are looking for something to do that day please consider spending some time in downtown Oxford. Starting with the 5k/1 mile at 10:30 AM (our first time adding the run/walk) and then rolling into a full day of major family Fall fun! Hope to see some of you there and THANK YOU for the support 🙂 Feel free to share!
I should add this year a percentage of proceeds will go to benefit the OHS Cheer Team and they will he partnering with us for support out on the course. Cost is $10/person (if you register 5 or more family members they are free!)

Detroit Chapter of Medals4Mettle gifts it’s 10,000th medal to a Wonderful young girl in Troy!

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting a young girl named Carly who had just arrived at her hospital to start her chemo treatments for the morning. She always sees her favorite nurse, Mindi, each week and this visit she brought Mindi a big cinnamon bun for a treat. But that was not the only surprise of the morning, for you see Mindi (and I) had something special for Carly as well, a beautiful Mickey Mouse marathon medal from Disney World just for her! This medal we gifted to Carly was our 10,000th medal passed out in Southeast Michigan. If you look at the pictures you can see Carly with her Beautiful Smile, her mom and her pal Avocado Sausage, who joins her for each and every hospital visit. So, of course, it only made sense that Carly would have the honor to pick out medal 10,001, a heart shaped Sun Guy medal, for her pal Avocado Sausage. It was a wonderful visit and am so grateful to Mindi for planning it out so very well.

I can’t address and thank each of you individually but please know this. If, you ran a race and donated a medal to our chapter over the past 14 years, Thank You! If you ran, sponsored or volunteered at the Back To The Beach or SterlingFast while we raised almost $250,000.00, Thank You! If you told a friend about the program or attended a past medal gifting, Thank You! If you invited me to set up at your race expo to collect medals, Thank You! You all were a part of this special moment yesterday and it means everything. I still remember fiddling around, cleaning and putting ribbons on those first few medals we gifted a long time ago and never could have imagined all the generosity that would have followed me thru the years to make yesterday morning happen!
SO … On behalf of everyone involved in Medals4Mettle, THANK YOU THANK YOU 10,000 TIMES DETROIT! YOU ROCK!

So many great memories ... so little time! We certainly had a great run with all of your help in volunteering, running, sponsoring and cheering!!! It took hundreds of people every year to put this race on and without the community support of all the local townships and all their fire and safety support don't think we would have made it past the first year ❤️ We Did Good Things Everyone!!! We had more fun than anyone!!! We put smiles on 10,000 faces with all your medals you donated - 10,000 folks!!!! We gave money to so many charities and we helped improve our community with trail improvement projects!!!! Stony Creek is a nicer place because of all your support. And on And on And ON.

Lifelong friends were made and lifelong memories were made! The spirit of the Sun Guy goes on ... Thanks Everyone!!!! Have a Happy Summer of continued friendships and carry on the volunteering spirit wearing your Sun Guy Bling! Cheers and THANK YOU!!
