Annual Thanksgiving Day lift to earn the food I'm about to put down.

Not too bad. Have had better days in the past, but for not having gone "Max Effort Heavy" in the past couple of years due to injuries (specifically both knees) and other situations, it was pretty good.

Sumo Deadlift: 455 lbs for 1 (5th Set)
Back Squat: 300 lbs for 2 (5th Set)
Step-Ups: 155 lbs for 5 per side (4 Sets)

All at 205 lbs BW. Gives me something to shoot for next year... Finally getting a 600 pound deadlift. My all-time PR is 585 lbs @ 190 lbs BW, so it would be cool to get it at least once in my life.

Anyways, time to feast. Have a great Thanksgiving ya'll!

Don't forget about the importance of recovery ("off") days.

Can't always be going 100 mph every day without some sort of repercussion.

The trick is knowing how many and what kind of day to have.

A few cues to watch out for:

- Random or acute drop in strength or energy that can't be attributed to sleep or nutrition
- Overwhelming soreness that has lasted longer than three days
- Onset of illness (like a cold)
- Increased lethargy or unusual tiredness

A lot of this can be decided through your overall program and knowing when to pop in recovery days. Also, a recovery day doesn't have to just be laying around and not doing anything (although that might be beneficial depending on the intensity of training) - recovery can also include walking, yoga, mobility work, sauna, and the list goes on.

But overall, listen to what your body is telling you. If it's screaming that it needs a break for a day or two... Let it. You'd be surprised how much stronger you'll be when you get back into it.

In this tip, I want to elaborate on the simple idea of "Every little bit matters."

I feel we sometimes focus on going from 0 to 100, and for some - maybe that works. But for a lot of people, it isn't sustainable and unfortunately leads to people falling off of their program.

I think the better approach is developing stepping stones to that major goal. Consistency is key. Get consistent at the lowest floor you can start at, and build from there.

Watch this video and let me know where you can start at for your program in the comments below!

Also looking for new clients! If you're interested in taking your program and goals to the next level, send me a message today!

What a month. John came back in a little over a month ago, and has been hitting it HARD ever since.

Coming in 5-6 times a week for training (mostly strength training with a little bit of low to moderate intensity cardio), diligently tracking and logging his food intake, and increased his non-training activity on the daily.

The results? Down and up in all of the right areas. You can even visually see the changes compared to when he first came in... And that was just about four weeks ago!

Proof that nothing beats dedicated, diligent, tried-and-true hard work.

Great stuff, John! Let's keep this ball rolling!
