The crew member of the day is Captain Jim!

Captain James Schlegel has been guiding Lake Michigan fishing trips for over four decades! He started Sea Dog in 1984 and has taught many other captains, mates, and charter fishing guests all about our wonderful fishery and town. Capain Jim continues to work on the boats on the off season when hes not spending time with his grandchildren. He’s excited for the 2026 season and all the new memories he’ll be able to help people make!

Meet first mate Jake!

Hi, I’m Jake Englebert. I’m 18 years old and live in Oostburg, Wisconsin. When I was little my Dad introduced me to the outdoors. It started with fishing bluegills and sunfish on the inland lakes. When he took me on Lake Michigan for the first time, I fell in love. The feeling of a Great Lakes trout or salmon on the end of your rod is unbelievable. Either fishing with my dad in his 17ft Smoker Craft or getting to fish with Dave on the Playin’ Hooky, it’s always a blast. I’ll never get sick of it.

Jake will be taking the test to get his captain's license in February 2026. Let's wish him luck on the test! The whole crew knows you're going to be among the greats, Jake!

2026 is Jake’s fifth year fishing with Playin’ Hooky.

With these short, cold days, it’s hard to imagine the fishing season is only a few months ahead. Take a moment to read about our crew throughout the next week. Today’s crew member is Captain Quinn!

Captain Quinn has been fishing Lake Michigan since he could walk. Quinn joined the Playin’ Hooky team in 2022 and immediately started building valuable relationships with guests and absolutely clobbering the fish! He is already highly respected among the Sheboygan charter fishing community at just 20 years old! In February 2024, Quinn passed the exam to become a U.S. Coast Guard certified captain.

Quinn loves the outdoors and when he is not fishing he is either planning his next trip or hunting.
