An Invitation to Help Restore a Special Piece of Shawnee’s History
A quiet piece of Shawnee’s history is about to come alive again—and we would love for you to be part of it.
This weekend, Kindred Arts Collective begins moving into the former Fine Arts Building at St. Greg’s.
This beautiful space has been quiet for many years, but it was created for the arts and is ready to serve that purpose again. We are honored to help bring its studios, classrooms, and theatre back to life so a new generation can dance, create, perform, learn, and grow within its walls.
We are deeply grateful to the Abbey and to everyone who has welcomed Kindred, encouraged this vision, and helped us reach this point. We are proud to work alongside those who care about restoring this historic campus and creating new opportunities to serve the Shawnee community.
Our new home includes two dance studios, a theatre, a dedicated art room, a large lobby, a costume closet, therapy and play therapy spaces, and additional classrooms that can eventually be renovated for new programs.
We will also have access to Sarkeys Performing Arts Center and the opportunity to be part of a campus community that includes the museum and a growing vision for service, education, wellness, and the arts.
Now, we are inviting the wider community to help with this restoration.
Perhaps you attended St. Greg’s and would love to see your alma mater filled with life again. Maybe you once danced in these studios and want to help make them ready for the next generation.
You may need community service hours, have experience with painting, flooring, repairs, cleaning, construction, or moving, or simply have time and tools you are willing to share. Every contribution can make a difference.
We would also love to connect with community members who are passionate about mental health and want to help us prepare welcoming therapy spaces. Through Waypoint Mental Health Counseling, these spaces will serve individuals and families, including those with SoonerCare.
We must move out of our current building by September 12, and classes begin in the new space on Monday. It is an ambitious timeline, but the progress already made reminds us what is possible when a community works together.
We also want to be honest about the weight of this undertaking. Adam and I are not stepping into it because we have endless financial resources. We are stepping into it because we believe God has called us here, and we believe deeply in what this space can become.
Restoring a building of this size carries a significant financial responsibility. We share that not to make money the focus, but to be transparent about the scope of the work and the faith it has required.
