COUGAR YOUTH CHEER 📣🐾
I am so proud of these little athletes and their coaches!! They are learning to adapt & get acclimated to this Oklahoma heat, SAFELY!!! I had my husband showing me with the wet bulb temp & each coach did a great job with breaks & hydration!! Thank you to our parents for braving the heat and sacrificing for your kiddos success!!!! This is going to be a great season!!!!! Go Cougars!!!!
What is a Wet-Bulb Temperature?
Unlike the regular temperature you see on your weather app, the wet-bulb temperature measures the combined effects of:
🌡️ Air Temperature
💧 Humidity
☀️ Sun Exposure
💨 Wind
This gives a much more accurate picture of how stressful the heat is on the human body. As humidity increases, your body’s ability to cool itself by sweating decreases, making heat-related illnesses more likely—even if the actual air temperature doesn’t seem extremely high.
How Will This Affect Games?
Before and during game days, host organizations will monitor wet-bulb readings and follow the OSSAA Heat Policy guidelines. Depending on the wet-bulb reading, adjustments may include:
✅ Increased water breaks
✅ Shortened periods of activity
✅ Modified warm-up procedures
✅ Delayed start times
✅ Suspension or cancellation of activities if conditions become unsafe
Our goal is simple: provide the safest possible environment while allowing our athletes the opportunity to compete whenever conditions permit.
