The Lord blessed me with the best buck of my life yesterday. Saw him from the stand last year but no pics. Moved the trail cam end of August and got plenty this season. Had 2 encounters this fall then made an aggressive move to try and seal the deal. He wasn’t fooled and I was busted thinking that was the last time I’d see him. I gave the spot 5 days and with alerts of early doe movement from my cell cam I headed back. Had to still hunt my way to the hang on but only made it half way when I saw a huge body deer climb the embankment. It was him so I got behind the closest big tree and watched his movement. Trotting nose to the ground surely a hot doe had been foraging the oak flat that morning. He made a large semi circle and bee lined right towards me before veering my tree for a perfect 20 yard broadside shot except he wasn’t going to stop. I let out a bleat but he took an extra step that covered the preferred sweet spot but there was plenty of vitals left at slightly quarrying away. I released the arrow and a solid hit followed. The arrow had great blood and so did the subsequent trail. The kind of blood I’d take up almost immediately but then my phone blew up with an image non other than the monster I’d just shot. What a strange coincidence getting to see the shot placement it looked back about 3 inches then I’d prefer to be but I was confident in a full liver shot minimum. I decided to play it safe and gave him 2.5 hours which in hindsight wasn’t necessary he only went another 20 yards. I’d like to thank my great friend Zack Menold for assisting in the tracking and dragging and some amazing photos!
