I am very sorry to have to inform you that Dave “Big Dog” Brooks passed away this afternoon.
He died peacefully, in no pain, with Laura at his side.
We have known it was coming for a few weeks now, but it still is difficult to accept.
Our club, and vintage base ball, lost our best friend today. Big Dog was always there when the club had a need. He was a great ambassador for the Vintage Base Ball Association. Nobody understands and appreciates how special vintage base ball is more than Big Dog. He will be missed by all who knew him, and, hopefully, remembered by many who didn't.

As another incredible season comes to a close, the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings of the Cincinnati Vintage Base Ball Club would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this year such a memorable one!

To our fans: thank you for coming out in such great numbers, cheering us on through the heat, the cold, and the thrill of every inning. Your support and enthusiasm keep this game alive, and we are truly grateful for each of you who took the time to watch 19th century base ball played the way it was meant to be played.

To the teams who traveled to play us at our home field, Dan Lyon Field, we appreciate your dedication to the sport and your willingness to make the trip. And to the teams and cities that invited us to play on your fields and take part in your wonderful events, thank you for the hospitality and for sharing your love of vintage base ball with us. Every match is more than a game, it’s a celebration of history, sportsmanship, and camaraderie.

A huge thank you goes to the Heritage Village Museum for your continued partnership and support. Playing within such a beautiful, historic setting adds a special magic to every game, and we’re honored to call it our home.

Congratulations to all the players, for every bat swung, every pitch hurled, every base run, and every manly catch caught! It was one heck of a season filled with grit, laughter, and a true love for the game. Each of you contributes to keeping the spirit of early base ball alive, and without any part of this club, players, volunteers, families, fans, and friends, none of this would be possible.

We’re already looking forward to next season! To seeing even more fans, visiting more destinations, and welcoming new and old teams to play this timeless game with us. Once the ground thaws, it’ll be game time once again!

The Cincinnati Vintage Base Ball Club wrapped up their Gatlinburg trip with a 21–2 victory over the team from Tennessee! It was a spirited game filled with great camaraderie, and the club had an absolute blast taking the field against such fine opponents.

This marked the second of two games played against the beautiful Gatlinburg backdrop, with Cincinnati coming out on top in both contests. A huge thank you to Jason, our gracious host, for welcoming us to his field, and to Yankee Bear for umpiring and helping make the weekend such a memorable one!

The Cincinnati Vintage Base Ball Club earned a 23–9 victory over their friends, the Tippacanoe Canal Jumpers! It was a close game throughout, with the exception of one big inning that gave Cincinnati the edge they needed.

This was the first of two games played against the stunning backdrop of beautiful Gatlinburg, making for an unforgettable day of vintage base ball. A special thank you to Jason, our gracious host, for welcoming us to the field, and to Yankee Bear for his fine work umpiring the match!

The 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings earned a 20–6 victory over their brothers the Cincinnati Buckeyes, and with it claimed the coveted Trophy Ball! But more importantly, the day was about celebrating Steve “One Sock” Griffith in his final game with the Cincinnati Vintage Base Ball Club. After 38 incredible seasons of playing vintage base ball, One Sock is retiring, leaving behind a legacy of sportsmanship, passion, and friendship. In his honor, the entire team proudly wore the iconic single sock throughout the game a fitting tribute to a true legend. Congratulations, One Sock!

Next up, the Cincinnati Vintage Base Ball Club travels to Tipp City, Ohio, on Sunday, September 28th, to battle for the Tipp City Cup.

The 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings fell to the Champion City Reapers in Springfield, OH, by a score of 13–10. It was a close contest, but defensive struggles proved costly and kept the Red Stockings from pulling out the win.

The club now turns its attention to Fairfield, Ohio, on Saturday, September 20th, where they will look to reclaim the Heart of Vintage Base Ball trophy from the 2024 champions, Tipp City. It promises to be a spirited battle for the crown!
