Almost never do I have clients lift a weight that they can handle for less for 5 reps. Why? because it‘s dangerous, it doesn’t actually make you stronger or translate to anything in sports unless you’re a power lifter. Granted, telling your friends that you can one arm swing a 40lb kettlebell or they created the kinetic force equivalent of 5 times their body weight by landing from 20 inches doesn’t generate the back slap enthusiasm that half repping a 400lb squat does...But training clients of any age is not about how much weight they can lift, its about what’s truly best for the individual, what will make them better at what they’re trying to do, and more resistant to injury while surprising their friends with their ability to move with speed, balance, power and athleticism.. 🏋️♂️
