When people think of karate the first thing that comes to mind is punching and kicking. In all actuality those are about fourth on the list. The first three are Discipline, Respect and Confidence. Once you have those three everything else falls in place, including improvement of the mind and physical capabilities. Here is a message we received regarding one of our students:

Good-evening, I was just wanting to sing a little bit of praise to you. Owen is graduating Pre-k this week and they did different learning assessments on him at the beginning of the year as well at the end of this year. His gross motor skills have improved from 17% to 97% and I can't help but attribute it to karate. So with that being said a big thank you to you!! Attached is his score from September and then again in May.

Enli Hewett, an eighth-grade student at Classical Charter Schools of Southport, has been selected to represent the United States at the 2026 WUKF World Karate Championships in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Good afternoon
Just a reminder the main dojo will be closed today and Monday (May 22 and May 25) for Memorial Day weekend. The satellite will be open tonight but closed on Monday. I wish everyone a safe and happy weekend and take a minute to reflect and think about what this weekend really represents. Many are not with us because they gave their lives protecting us.

The Isshinryu hall of fame is July 17 and 18. We had four people nominated this year, Miss Shelby Jr competitor of the year and under 12 female karate-ka of the year, Mr Enli male Jr competitor of the year, Mr Billy under 12 karate ka of the year and coach Justin the Steve Armstrong outstanding contribution award. They deserve a big congratulations as only 5 people were chosen per category throughout the United States. There is still time to register for the banquet and tournament, click the link below. This is one of the few chances to meet high ranking black belts in Isshinryu from all over the country. The best of the best meet once a year. It is in Gatlinburg Tennessee and its a great place to make it a family vacation. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions
