Latest from the CRPA.
Seemingly unfazed by last week’s ruling , the Bruen decision, and even the US Constitution, the State of California today appealed the ruling that struck down significant aspects of its “safe” handgun roster.
Judge Cormac Carney last week ruled that the requirements for inclusion on the roster were unconstitutional, essentially undermining the roster itself. The state’s impossible-to-meet requirements, such as microstamping, kept any new fi****ms from being sold in California. That essentially worked AGAINST allowing the sale of newer, SAFER fi****ms…exactly the opposite of what the law purported to accomplish.
Also endangered was the clever little scheme passed by the Legislature that called for three fi****ms on the roster to be removed any time a new one was added. Why, because they were now unsafe? No, because the agenda is clear: End “gun culture” by taking away the ability to even purchase one in the first place.
We in the Second Amendment community have seen this agenda for quite some time and no amount of mainstream media blathering justifies the attacks we fend off on a daily basis. This “safe” handgun roster is a perfect example. It has kept no one safe. Its true aim has been to deny Second Amendment rights to law abiding Californians.
We will keep you updated on what are bound to be very…interesting…arguments made by the state. Thankfully, we have the hammer of the Bruen decision on our side!

Latest update from the CRPA regarding CA Roster ruling.
By now you've hopefully heard about the momentous victory achieved yesterday in Boland v. Bonta, CRPA's case challenging the state's "safe handgun roster". Today you may be asking yourself: what happens next?
We've tried to provide below answers to some of the common questions:
Q: What did the order state as unconstitutional?
A: Particular features of handguns like chamber load indicator, which indicates whether a handgun is loaded, magazine disconnect mechanism, which prevents a handgun from being fired is the magazine is not fully inserted, and microstamping, which is microscopic characters representing the handgun’s make model and serial number onto the casing when the firearm is fired.
No handgun in the world has all three of these features which is why no new semi-auto handguns have been allowed on the California “safe” Handgun Roster since 2013 when the microstamping requirement was introduced.
Q: Is the injunction from the court in place right now and can I buy whatever gun I want now?
A: The order enjoining the features required for a handgun on the CA “Safe” Handgun Roster does not go into effect for 14 days. During this time the state will decide if they will appeal the decision to the Ninth Circuit. If the State appeals, then the injunction will more than likely be stayed until the appeal goes forward and nothing will change for the time being. If the State does not appeal the ruling, then the injunction will go into effect around March 2nd.
Q: Is the roster completely gone with this ruling?
A: No. This ruling does not necessarily go away with this court order, but it does make the most egregious parts of the existing roster inoperable. Like the 3 for 1 law that was passed last year where for every one gun that came onto the roster with these features, three others arbitrarily dropped off the available list of firearm even though they were already deemed “safe” by the state. Essentially, this court order makes this 3 for 1 law inoperable because no firearm has to meet the restrictions on features any longer if the injunction stands.
Q: What Happens next?
A: We have to wait to see if the State will appeal the ruling. Thus far, no comment from the Governor, the Attorney General, or gun-control groups supports maintaining the roster. Once we know how the State will react, we will alert members with that update.
Q: How do we get rid of the roster for good?
A: CRPA has done the heavy lifting on this case and fought to get the features required by CA (some of which do not even exist) ruled unconstitutional. Manufacturers of fi****ms should be looking at the other issues with the roster including the testing requirements and the like

March 20 (Reuters) - A federal judge on Monday blocked California from enforcing a state law requiring new semiautomatic handguns to have certain safety features, finding it violates the right to bear arms under the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Cormac Carney in Santa Anna, California is the latest in a line of decisions striking down state gun laws following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling last year expanding gun rights. The judge said it would not take effect for 14 days to give the state a chance to appeal.
