They mean the world to me, both the kids and the horses. I’ve watched them grow from babes, taught them, learned with them and loved them to bits (pun intended) and pieces.

Watching them grow is a privilege that I don’t take for granted.

Sometimes I’m mean….

It’s not my favorite to come down on my students. I’d much rather be their cheerleader, screaming from the opposite end of the arena to make them feel like sitting that lope was top tier amazing.

But sometimes their “teenager shows” and reality has to hit that respect is still important, listening matters and keeps them safe, and at the end of the day I rule with an iron fist… even if it’s covered in glitter.

It matters that they know my horses are the first priority, their treatment and care come first. Being gentle but consistent in the saddle matters more than your feelings.

They laugh and call me “scary Carrie” sometimes. But they know it’s true and she shows up when needed.

I love my students, but I love them enough to make sure they know respect ❤️

Now don’t get me wrong I don’t really know if horses go to heaven, but if a couple horses ever deserved to it would be these two boys.

Loving these geldings has been one of the greatest privileges. They were loved by more kids in their years with me than some horses are their entire lives. But sometimes loving a horse means knowing when to let go. This year feels like the year of loss. But when the loss feels this great it means the love was even greater.

That’s what my friend called lessons the other day. My 6 kiddos are roaming the yard, students coming and going, horses tied in rows, kids learning and Jesus… just everywhere, I see him in the hearts of my helpers, I see him in the beauty and kind eyes of my horses, and in every moment I try to point all of this back to Him. I want to teach kids about horses, but I LOVE to teach them about my Lord ♥️

My mom loved this horse. From the second he arrived she would stand at the kitchen window, or sit on her porch and just watch him run around the pen.

Getting him started and seeing his potential come full circle brings me a different kind of joy than starting any other c**t we ever have. It’s a joy for what he’s become mixed with a grief of her not being here to share it. I can see her smile in my mind every time we get on him. I know how proud she would be to see him under saddle, and I wish so badly I could send her every picture and video of him and how sweet and good he has become.

I’ve never had a horse with such a heart, that’s been so sensitive to me. I’ve cried into his mane more times than I’d care to admit and he just lowers his head and lets me fall into him.

Horses are more than just a fun ride, they tie memories together for me. They’re milestones of life, they’ve seen me at my worst and been through the growth. I’m so thankful for the blessing God has given us in them

I have seen God move too many times to deny that He is real and that His word is truth. He has answered some of my prayers to specifically to deny His love for me. Life is hard but God is good. ♥️

If you’ve hit a wall in the round pen… if you think you have an unmotivated c**t… if you think they’re bored… if you don’t know why you can’t get them to move out. If you feel like they’re hot every time they come through the gate. Take em out.

Horses weren’t meant to just run a pattern every Wednesday night… they weren’t meant to run 1000 circles or rollback off the fence a million times. They get bored, they get overwhelmed, they get stuck. So take em out, lope the old dirt road, cut a new trail through the woods. You dont want to get stuck doing the same thing 100 times so why would they??

Sweet Toby, you are the pot of gold at the end of her rainbow. And I think she and the other kids are growing on you too...
