Taylor Hughes and I crossed paths awaiting our morning ✈️ . He kindly offered me his new book. After only a few pages in, a sweet thought popped into my head. It was that my editor has been asking me to find a resource for improving making all the immense messages I have shared over the years even more concise on stage and in social media, etc. Well God created a fun crossroads. I could have said no when he asked and I am so glad I said Yes! Taylor has so many ways to share his wonderful gifts. 🎁 Thank you Taylor, for your willingness to say hello, be a vessel for so many, and the book has some great nuggets I will be implementing as well.

April Ballestero is inviting you to a new community.

You may be the person everyone turns to when decisions need to be made or challenges arise.

Yet, where do you go when you need perspective, space to think, or support for your own leadership?

Strong leaders keep growing, and that means having a place to bring your questions, explore ideas, gain perspective, and work through what matters most.

That’s why I created Decisions That Drive Trust, a new leadership development experience designed to give you a consistent place to learn, grow, strategize, ask questions, build practical tools, and get the support you need as you lead others.

Because leadership doesn’t only happen in the executive office. Leadership happens anywhere you have the opportunity to influence, contribute, support others, make decisions, or help move something forward.

And you don’t have to lead alone.

I’d love to invite you to learn more about Decisions That Drive Trust and see if it’s the kind of leadership support you’ve been looking for.

September has a few miles ahead.

Some are for learning; some are for serving.
Some are for strengthening strategic partnerships.
And some are simply for being Grandma.

Building meaningful work has never been about doing it alone. Relationships have shaped every chapter of this journey.

September is a month to connect with some of the people and partnerships that continue to make Living Unlayered possible.

Where are your relationships taking you this month?

What if the first step toward solving a leadership challenge isn’t having the answer? What if is having the most effective conversation?

Sometimes what looks like a communication problem, performance problem, or responsibility problem is actually something deeper.

Before jumping to solutions, start with a conversation.

Listen. Ask better questions. Understand what matters.

That’s often where the real work begins.

Our newest blog shares why conversation is the starting point for the work we do with leaders and organizations.

When someone with decades of experience says a message made them stop, think, and see something differently, I don't take that lightly.
Grateful for this thoughtful reflection and honored that Slaying the Onion resonated so deeply.

One of the things I love most about this work is planting seeds.
Seeds of self-awareness.
Seeds of empathy.
Seeds of communication.
Seeds of innovation.
Seeds of resilience.
Because great leadership isn't built in a day.
It's cultivated over time.

The best conversations are the ones that change how we see ourselves, our teams, and what's possible.
That's why I love this work.
Whether I'm coaching one leader or facilitating a room full of people, my goal is the same:
To create the kind of insight that lasts long after the conversation ends.

People often think growth comes from adding more.
More knowledge.
More effort.
More strategies.
But some of the most meaningful growth happens when we remove what's no longer serving us.
The assumptions.
The patterns.
The stories we've outgrown.
That's the work I love most.
Helping people uncover what's been there all along.

07/21/2026

We often think our future is shaped by the decisions we make.
But it's also shaped by the decisions we avoid.
The conversation we don't have.
The change we don't make.
The opportunity we don't pursue.
Sometimes staying where we are is a decision all its own.
