Starting this week, the Women-Only Beginner BJJ (and self-defense review) class is now every FRI 5-6pm. NO uniform (gi) or previous martial arts experience is required. These beginner classes for women and teen girls are just right for someone who wants something physical and fun! Jiu-jitsu is a martial art that focuses on leverage and timing for control and escapes. Fun games help you learn quickly and playfully!

NOTE: Solarte is closed Friday July 3rd. On Friday July 10th everyone is welcome to the Solarte Summer Potluck at 5pm (so no women-only class that week.)

Cost: $10-$25 per session, self-determined sliding scale. NOTE: No one will be turned away due to inability to pay.

Location: 1600 Carlsborg Rd, Sequim, WA

What to wear/bring: Comfortable clothing you can move in. Recommend full length leggings with shorts and compression shirt, slides or other slip-on footwear, water bottle.

We're gonna miss you, big guy. Karl is moving away, but we're looking forward to him visiting us from time to time. He's been a wonderful teammate, training partner and friend. His insights, hardworking attitude and growth mindset have been an inspiration. Thank you, Karl, for these last 2-1/2 years with us.🙏 Have a good fishing season and hope to see you again soon!

Intro to Women's Self-Defense is this SAT. 6/6 Noon–3pm. If you've take the class at Solarte before, it is FREE to retake it. Please let the women and teen girls in your lives know about the class. They'll learn how to set boundaries with strangers as well as familiar persons who are being inappropriate. Our methods are real-world tested and based on women’s physicality and concerns. The focus is on non-combative “soft skills” for understanding and avoiding violence, plus some introductory "hard skills". For more info visit SolarteBJJ.com/women-only-self-defense-class-in-sequim/

In addition to discussion, lessons include some scenario training, but there is NO physical requirement! So please don’t hesitate to attend even if you are pregnant, or have an injury/physical ailment.

In the last few weeks, a number of Solarte students have leveled up. Phil got some long overdue stripes on his white belt and Jon received the first stripe on his blue belt. The kids have also been working hard: Carma and Wes had their first-ever evaluations, each earning two stripes on their white belts. Brother and sister team, Ellie and William, got three stripes on their white belts. Angus has his fourth stripe on his white belt and his sister, Zealand, leveled up to yellow and white. Congratulations to all!!!!

In our program, all belting and striping is optional. Both kids and adults choose whether or not they want to participate. For youth, they need to be at least 8 years old and consistently training for 2-3 months before they can request an evaluation. It's basically a short private lesson with the instructor in which family are welcome to watch and ask questions. In the adult program, at any time club members are welcome to ask what they need to work on and "where they're at" as far as getting their next stripe or belt. We encourage questions and love it when folks are self-motivated and engaged!

We’re back to our regular schedule this week! We had a great turnout for last night’s Mon 6:30pm gi class. Today (Tue) we have Li’l Ones at 3:30pm, No Gi Youth Class at 4:30pm and Adult No Gi at 5:30pm. For the full schedule, visit SolarteBJJ.com/schedule. It’s always kept up-to-date.

We also have Intro to Women’s Self-Defense on Sat 6/6 (Noon to 3pm) and Women-Only Jiu-jitsu on Fri 6/19 (5-6pm). Most of our kids and adults classes are beginner-friendly. Come in and see what it’s all about!
