Game of the Week Preview
The Senators of Morgan Academy are at home again this week as they take on the Lee-Scott Academy Warriors.
This weeks game will be the last of a three game home stand, before hitting the road for the next three games.
Morgan is coming into this weeks game after a big region win last week over Valiant Cross, 20-0. John Allen Ingram had 125+ yards and two rushing touchdowns in the victory.
After giving the team the day off to enjoy Labor Day, the Senators will return to the practice field today to prepare for the Warriors.
When we asked Coach Raines about the leadership for his Senators, he said “Our leadership was much better in this second game. It made a world of difference for us this past week.”
This weeks game, will for sure be a tough test for the Morgan offense against a Lee-Scott defense that has yet to allow a point thus far. The Warriors have defeated Chambers Academy 34-0 and Monroe Academy 45-0, both on the road.
As I was having a conversation with Coach Raines, I mentioned the shutouts by Lee-Scott so far this season and I asked him, what do they do on defense so well? Coach Raines responded by saying, “Yes sir, Lee-Scott is very good. They are big and athletic. They really don’t have any weaknesses. We will have to have a great night to beat them - but we are looking forward to the challenge.”
The Warriors defeated the Senators last season by a score of 31-17. This weeks game is a very important Class AAA Region game early in the season. Both teams enter this weeks contest at 1-0 in the Region. This season, Class AAA only have 8 teams in the classification. With that being the case, all of the teams in AAA will play one another this season. The top 6 seeds will make the playoffs with the 1st and 2nd place seeds receiving a first round bye.
“They are all so important. Every region game is huge. Lee-Scott is one of the top teams - if not the region favorite.” Coach Raines said about their appoint and when asked how important this weeks game was.
Morgan and Lee-Scott will kickoff Thursday night at 6:30pm.
