I wish to say Thank You to all of my past students, supporters and followers. I closed in January of 2020 due to covid. I came to the conclusion that this was a sign that it was time to close permanently. I wish to travel and it would not be proper to break up the training routine of my students. Thank you again.

Savannah Markley earned her Gold Belt last night. Savannah has trained under me the longest of any of my students. Her determination and commitment showed last night. She performed well for herself and the many family members who came to support her.

A monk was asked once how he reconciled learning Martial Arts with a vow of Peace. His answer was, "I would rather be a warrior stuck in a field of crops, than a farmer stuck in a field of battle."

Tragic events continue to happen to Public Safety Personnel. Some make the news, national or local. Some never make the news. Increasing safety is a multi-pronged approach. Management will need to look at policies and procedures and provide training in skills. Many Fire and EMS systems have been reluctant in the past to provide the skills and only focus on the policies and procedures. They often feel that the skills are counter-intuitive to a system that is supposed to be completely focused on providing care and helpful service to the public. This concept is changing. The addition of physical restraint being added to most protocols across the country is one example of this. Our Fire/EMS personnel need to be provided or at least given access to quality skill training in the areas of Crew Safety, Personal Safety, and Patient Restraint. We have had the mantra of "Everyone goes Home" around fire suppression activities for years. It's time to extend that to all Fire/EMS activities.

Training at a small school has many advantages. The most significant one is the flexibility to adapt the curriculum to fit the needs and physical ability of the students. Everyone can become an amazing Martial Artist, but everyone will do it in their own way. Come to a school that understands that philosophy.

I have developed three classes for EMTs and Paramedics around the protocols for physical restraint. I am currently in the process of getting the classes pre-approved for con-ed credit. There are very few places to get hands-on training in a well refined system that is in complete compliance with all protocols and guidelines. The system employs an approach, techniques, and thorough understanding of the force continuum that makes it very effective in patient restraint and helping to keep the crew safe. Contact me and lets arrange a class.

The current students in the Little Tigers Class. Little Tigers are pre-school age kids. The focus for this age group is three fold, just like the older groups, physical, mental, and spiritual. The physical is balance, coordination, flexibility, strength and endurance. The mental is cooperation, kindness, humility, proper sense of accomplishment, following instructions and mental strength & endurance. All of these things along with learning the Hwa Rang Do O Kae and the Hwa Rang Do Ku Hoon build good spiritual fitness. This is a great group of kids. The oldest student will be graduating to the Kids Class this fall. That will open up space in the Little Tigers class for 1 or 2 new students. Contact me for information on all of our classes, pre-school to any age. There is no such thing as being to old to be healthy through the Martial Arts.

It is the Christmas Season again. Time to be thankful for the blessings in our lives. I am thankful for my family and friends. My students and their families are wonderful people. Remember to keep a healthy balance between the physical and spiritual aspects of the season. It is appropriate to enjoy the decorations, parties and presents. Don't chastise yourself for enjoying these things they are a part of the season. Just remember to be thankful for what made those things possible. May all that read this post have a happy and healthy new year.

With the upcoming Holiday season one of two things often happen to people. You can get caught up in the materialist draw of the season and loose site of what's important. The other result is using this time of the year to reevaluate, reinforce and strengthen your commitment to what is important. Enjoy the season and remember what is important.
