Sometimes the reminder isn’t a person.
It’s a moment.
A song you haven’t heard in years.
A look from someone who still sees the good in you.

This is something Henry and I worked on a while ago. This is OUR Halloween story…

Ryker Quention’s Twisted Nightmare

By TruMan and Henry

One night before Halloween’s great fun,
Ryker Quention’s nightmare had begun.
He tossed and turned in bed with fright,
And things got very strange that night.

His eyes slid down to his chin below,
While his mouth appeared where his hair should grow!

“Goodness gracious, what’s wrong with my face?
Everything’s moved to the wrong place!”

He ran to the mirror, his heart in a spin,
But his reflection just gave a toothy grin.

“Don’t panic, Ryker, you’ll be okay,
It’s just a dream, you’ll find your way.”

Yet as he turned, the world around
Was full of kids with faces all upside-down!
One had a nose on the back of her head,
Another’s ears were square instead.

“Help!” Ryker shouted, “What can I do?

How do I fix this and look like you?”

But the kids just laughed and shook their heads,

“We love our looks; we’re unique,” they said.

Ryker felt confused and quite out of place,
Still wishing for his “normal” face.
But then a girl with a twisted grin
Put her hand gently under his chin.

“Your face is special, can’t you see?
Different means you’re just more you, not me!
Your smile shines brighter, your eyes are wide,
You’re still Ryker, inside and outside.”

Suddenly, Ryker began to see,
Being different wasn’t so scary to be.
He joined in the fun, and before long,
He was laughing and playing along.

When he woke up, his face back in line,
Ryker felt grateful for the night’s design.
“I’m me,” he said with a smile so wide,
“And being different fills me with pride!”

So on Halloween, with a confident grin,
Ryker dressed up as someone with eyes on their chin.

He knew now the truth, both real and surreal,
That what makes us different is what makes us real!

Confident
By TruMan

With heads held high, they face the day,
Eyes on their goals, no need to sway.
Their words, like rivers, calm and clear,
Flow with purpose, steady, sincere.

They let their actions speak, not loud,
No need for praise from any crowd.
They listen deep, they listen true,
Understanding is what they pursue.

“I don’t know” comes without shame,
It’s part of learning, part of the game.
Their worth doesn’t waver, it’s not for show,
They need no validation for what they know.

Embracing stumbles, they rise with grace,
Failure’s the fuel for their steady pace.
Each connection made with thoughtful intent,
Their network grows where effort’s spent.

In quiet moments, they pause and reflect,
Adapting themselves with deep self-respect.
For in their hearts, they’ve always known,
Confidence is built in how they’ve grown.

At the Annual Teacher Conference
By TruMan

We gather each year, with coffee in hand,
To face the long sessions that no one had planned.
The smell of old lady perfume fills the air,
A mix of lavender, rose, and… mothballs? I swear!

Women dart past, their heels click on the floor,
Loaded with bags from the vendor next door.
"Did you see that free tote?" one whispers with glee,
"I grabbed seven pencils and stickers for free!"

The keynote’s delayed—Wi-Fi’s acting up,
And someone just spilled their third travel mug.
But we’re here for the knowledge, we’re here to improve—
Okay, maybe just here for the breakroom food.

Workshops are crowded, no chairs left to sit,
So we stand at the back, nodding, “Yeah, this is it!”
But what’s that we spy? A lone empty seat—
A full-on sprint, and it’s mine! What a feat!

The lanyards are tangled, they itch like a curse,
And we wonder, “Can learning get any worse?”
But then comes the session on self-care and zen,
Where half of us snooze ‘til it’s lunch hour again.

And as the day ends, we stroll out the door,
With bags full of swag but our feet kind of sore.
Another great conference, we laugh and we groan,
Then pack up those totes—back to school, back home!

Just trying to understand our future…

I want to make something clear upfront: I am neither a Republican nor a Democrat, and I don’t have a horse in this political race. Recently, I’ve been hearing a lot about something called Project 2025, especially during this year’s debates. One of the candidates mentioned it more than once, and while the other candidate just isn’t someone I can support based on their history, I was curious about what this proposal actually meant for the future of our country.

After talking with ChatGPT to get a clearer picture, I finally feel like I understand what this project could mean for me and my family’s future. To break it down: Project 2025 is essentially about reducing the size of the federal government, giving the president more power, and weakening the influence of elections and the courts. Supporters believe this will lead to more personal freedom, lower taxes, and stronger national security. But there are also serious risks like making us more vulnerable to foreign threats, reducing the power of democratic institutions, and even the potential for civil unrest or worse.

I’m not here to push an agenda or tell you who to vote for, but I do think it’s important to understand how something like this could change the course of our country. If this proposal moves forward, it will affect all of us. This isn’t about left vs. right for me; it’s about understanding what’s at stake and what kind of future we want to leave for our kids.

If anyone else has been wondering about this, I’d encourage you to do your own research and really think about the long-term impact.

Here’s my conversation:

A Mother’s Watchful Eye
By TruMan

Though now she’s gone, her love remains,
A guiding light through joy and pains.
In every breeze, he feels her near,
In every silence, hears her cheer.

She watches from the skies above,
Protecting them with endless love.
Her spirit strong, her power clear,
She shields them from all harm and fear.

Though distance keeps them far apart,
She’s always here, within his heart.
A mother’s watchful eye prevails,
Her love the wind that fills their sails.

So though the world may shift and sway,
He knows she’s just a thought away.
Her love, a force that never fades,
A light that cuts through all the shades.

Building My Horizon

I’ve walked through valleys, shadows deep,
Where doubts would whisper, make me weep.
But something strong inside of me
Kept pushing forward, set me free.

The world, it throws up walls so high,
Sometimes it feels like I can’t fly.
But there’s a fire, a steady beat,
That drives me on, won’t let me cheat.

Every step, the ground would quake,
But I’ve got dreams I won’t forsake.
The stories of the battles won
Are etched in me, I’m never done.

Obstacles rise, like walls of stone,
But I’ve got strength I’ve always known.
Deep inside, like roots that grip,
Holding tight so I don’t slip.

No storm can shake, no quake can break,
The will I’ve built for my own sake.
Self-discipline, my guiding hand,
Helps me carve out where I stand.

Every fall taught me to rise,
I see beyond those cloudy skies.
The scars of past, they make me bold,
They’re the armor I unfold.

Through endless nights and trials long,
I’ve built a life, I’ve written song.
It’s a rhythm born of dreams and grind,
Turning challenges into gold I find.

That bigger goal, it’s far but clear,
Pulls me onward, year by year.
With hope and faith that I’ve secured,
I stand my ground, I’m reassured.

The life I crave, I will create,
No matter what’s been on my plate.
With hands that work, with mind that’s sure,
I’ll build a future that endures.

No barrier, no weight of world,
Can crush the flag that I’ve unfurled.
The fire inside, it keeps me strong,
Guiding me where I belong.

So I keep pushing, never rest,
The life I want, I’ll manifest.
In every battle, in every fight,
I find the way, I see the light.

And when that day of triumph’s here,
I’ll stand tall, without fear.
Every step that brought me through,
Will echo loud, pure and true.

I’ve risen up, I’ve found my groove,
From every doubt, I’ve made my move.
And in this space I’ve worked to find,
I live with purpose, peace of mind.
