Not every softball season is going to be “the season.” 🥎❤️
Some years the team clicks.
Some years it doesn't.
Sometimes she hits everything.
Sometimes the ball suddenly looks approximately the size of a pea. 😂
There will be weekends when the hotel is more memorable than the tournament.
Games where nobody can seem to throw the ball to the correct person.
Rain delays.
Tough coaches.
New teammates.
Lineups she doesn't understand.
Maybe even a stretch when she wonders whether she's getting any better at all.
And we parents feel it too.
We want every season to mean progress.
More confidence.
More playing time.
A better team.
A bigger opportunity.
Something that proves all those practices, drives and tournament weekends were leading somewhere.
But childhood doesn't really work like that.
Neither does development.
Sometimes a girl grows during the season where almost nothing goes according to plan.
She learns how to walk back into the dugout after striking out.
How to make a new friend.
How to listen to a coach she doesn't always agree with.
How to cheer when somebody else gets the moment she wanted.
How to have a disappointing Saturday…
and still wake up Sunday asking what time we leave for the field.
And somewhere between the errors, sunflower seeds, dirty uniforms and ridiculous hotel-hallway laughter…
she makes memories.
Years from now, she probably won't sort her softball childhood into:
Good seasons: 27–8.
Bad seasons: 14–19.
She'll remember people.
Places.
Stories.
How she felt.
Who sat beside her.
Who believed in her.
And whether she still loved pulling that glove onto her hand.
So yes - help her improve.
Let her compete.
Let her want to win.
But when the season isn't perfect?
Don't rush to decide it was wasted.
Some of the seasons that give us the least to brag about…
give our girls the most to carry with them. ❤️🥎
It was never just softball.
