🌊 Help Clean Up the Mahoning River! 🛶♻️

Join Buckeye Water to Trail Adventures and Friends of the Mahoning River for our next Mahoning Watershed Clean-Up!

📅 Sunday, September 13, 2026
⏰ 10 AM – 2 PM
📍 Meet at Niles Riverside Park
🛶 5.5-mile river clean-up

We need volunteers both on the water and on land, so you don't have to own a kayak or be a paddler to make a difference!

We'll provide trash bags, gloves, litter grabbers, and a safety briefing. Bring closed-toe shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, water, sunscreen, and your kayak or canoe if you're joining the on-water crew.

🌿 Every bag of trash removed helps protect wildlife, improve water quality, and make the Mahoning River a cleaner, safer place for everyone to enjoy.

All ages are welcome! Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

🌊 CLOSED DUE TO RIVER CONDITIONS

Due to current river conditions, Buckeye Water to Trail Adventures is closed for river trips today.

The river is running higher and faster than conditions we consider appropriate for our scheduled activities. The safety of our guests and staff always comes first.

We’ll continue monitoring conditions and reopen when the river returns to a safe operating level.

When in doubt, stay out. 🛶

🛶🌿 What a weekend on the Mahoning River!

This weekend was a great example of what Recreation, Education & Conservation can look like when we bring them all together.

We spent time on the water paddling, exploring the river, and getting our hands dirty removing trash and debris, including everything from tires and metal to an Adirondack chair! 🤣

At the same time, our Mahoning River Watershed BioBlitz had people getting outside across the watershed and documenting the incredible variety of life that calls this area home.

And the BioBlitz numbers kept growing!

🌿 Mahoning River Watershed BioBlitz Update! 🦋🍄🦅

What a day of exploring our watershed!

So far, our BioBlitz community has recorded:

From mushrooms and insects to plants, birds, and everything in between, every observation helps us better understand the incredible biodiversity found throughout the Mahoning River Watershed.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who got outside today, made observations, joined us on the water, or helped spread the word. This is exactly what a BioBlitz is all about! bringing people together to explore, learn about, and appreciate the natural world around us. 🔎🌎

We’re only halfway through the Mahoning River Watershed BioBlitz 2026, and the observations are already rolling in!

From Great Blue Herons and Great Egrets to cicadas, wildflowers, trees, mushrooms, and more, we’re getting an awesome snapshot of the biodiversity found throughout the Mahoning River Watershed.

And we’re not done yet! Get outside this afternoon, explore your backyard, local park, trail, stream, or river, and upload what you find to iNaturalist.
