Fellow Lard Butts,
Here's the full scoop on Seattle's Lard Butt 1K, set for this Saturday, August 10, at Magnuson Park. Important details:
EARLY PICK-UP OPTION: Friday!
If you will register or have registered BEFORE our packet-pickup deadline of 10pm today/THURS, you qualify to pick up your bib number and t-shirt at our one-day packet pickup that takes place tomorrow/Friday, August 9th (10am-7pm) at Super Jock n Jill on the north edge of Green Lake (7210 East Green Lake Drive North - Seattle). With an interest in having the Lard Butt waves begin on time while keeping the day-of-event registration area lines to a minimum, if you are able to do so, we strongly suggest that you pick up your bib and shirt at Super Jock n Jill Friday.
If you cannot pick up your materials on Friday, you may still pick up your packet near the event start line on Saturday morning beginning at 8:00AM. Please plan to arrive early, so you can get your materials and enjoy the starting area music and the Beer Garden, which opens at 8:30!
LOCATION REMINDER: The Lard Butt 1K will take place inside of Magnuson Park (7400 Sand Point Way NE - Seattle). More precisely as with previous years, the Lard Butt 1K will be on the primary loop that circles the park's Sports Meadow. The starting area is adjacent to enclosed tennis courts immediately EAST of the sports meadow. Follow the signs (and other Lard Butts) upon entering the park for parking and directions.
REGISTRATION REMINDER: There is still time for your friends and family to register for the Lard Butt 1K. They may do so online at www.lardbutt.com or in person at the Green Lake Super Jock n Jill location on Friday between 10AM and 7PM. The online registration will close at 6:00PM this Friday. After that, the last registration option is in-person at Magnuson Park on Saturday, beginning at 8:00AM.
FOOD DONATIONS: Please remember that we are supporting the University District Food Bank with the Lard Butt event. We will have collection bins in and around the registration area that morning. Please bring canned (no home-canned items, please) with you to the event. Canned soups, vegetables, tuna, as well as dry items like pasta and oatmeal are perfect!
In addition to canned food items, we will also accept and collect the following for donation to the University District Food Bank: Toothpaste, Bar Soap, Almond and/or Soy Milk, Baby Formula, Pasta, Oatmeal.
LARD BUTT CELEBRATION: There will of course be a beer garden serving not only malt beverages, but mimosas for those of you preferring a brunch-style beverage. Each of you receive one (1) beverage of your choice as part of registration and can purchase additional drinks as you like. You must show proper I.D. to enter (21 & over only) and have cash or credit/debit card on hand if you want extra beverages. For everyone under the age of 21 or preferring not to drink alcohol, there will also be root beer and soda outside of the beer garden area, as well as water.
SPIRIT OF LARD BUTT COSTUME PARTY: For those with a creative bent, the Spirit of Lard Butt Costume Party encourages individuals and teams to wear the most creative and relevant possible costumes to the Lard Butt 1K. Previous events have welcomed everything from Sumo wrestlers to dinosaurs and donut-hunters! What will Saturday bring? This is a family event, so keep it classy please.
