Seattle Grizzlies Australian Rules Football Club

The Seattle Grizzlies is an Australian Rules Football Club participating in the USAFL In their debut season at USAFL Nationals, the club finished third.

The Seattle Grizzlies Australian Rules football club was initially founded as the Seattle Jets in October 1998 and played their first competitive matches in 1999. Each year since then, the Grizzlies have been represented in the USA’s premier Australian Rules Football tournament, taking home a victory in the 2008 Division 2 Championships in Colorado Springs and falling one goal short of the Divisio

n 1 title the following year. During the late 2000s, the team focused on player development and several local talents (including Ryan Kastl, Zach Johns and Kevin Stanley) blossomed into key members of the USA Revolution, who represent the nation in international competition. More recent Grizzlies, Matt Zapel, Kiel Rasp and Max DePina have also made the step up to play for the Revolution. The Grizzlies’ Team of the Decade was named in October 2009, featuring key contributors like Kastl, Matthew Muller, Andrew Donlen and Greg Morton. In 2016, the Grizzlies debuted a women's club team. The team took second in their first regional competition and first place in D2 during their first national tournament. Chiung-Yi Tseng and Valerie Barber-Axthelm will also be representing the club at the national level and traveling to Australia with the Liberty team. The Grizzlies maintain a strong presence in local, regional and national competitions and now compete regularly in the burgeoning Pacific Northwest League against clubs from Portland, Vancouver, Victoria, and Burnaby. Local games are played at Magnuson Park and Judkins Park, with away trips in 2017 to Portland, Vancouver, and San Diego.
