The Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute of Seattle was established circa 1959 by Sijo Bruce Lee as his first Gung Fu school in Seattle, Washington. Since then the school continued to perpetuate the legacy and teachings of Sijo Bruce Lee's Gung Fu and Jeet Kune Do under the instruction and leadership of Sigung Taky Kimura, who was Sijo Bruce Lee's best friend and highest-ranked student, and in recent years u

nder the leadership of Head Instructor Sifu Andy Kimura. To this day the Institute continues to train the current generation of Jun Fan Gung Fu students on Seattle's eastside, and in recent years has conducted public seminars domestically in the United States and Canada, and also overseas. A few pictures from last weekends Legends Remembered seminar in Cortland NY August 24th and 25th. Sifu Kevin Carmell organized a heartfelt event in remembrance of Sijo Bruce Lee and Sigung Taky Kimura. This year would have marked my father’s 100th birthday. It was great to make new friends and see some old ones. Thank you to all who attended.

Hello,I hope this finds you and your families well. I wanted to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holiday Season. Also wanted to give you a quick update on Sigung’s health. He is still fighting and tough as nails. He misses you all and know that his greatest pleasure is the time he has spent with each one of you. These interactions and friendships are a big part of what has given his life such meaning and joy. In regards to classes and when we will resume, I can’t give a definitive answer at this time. I’ll have to see how things go with Sigung’s health. His care is a 24/7 thing now so committing to even one night a week has been difficult. I miss you all and can’t wait until we can resume again with a renewed sense of gratitude and joy to be able to come together and have a good workout. Take care and keep punching!!

Shout out to Shannon Lee and the crew of Warrior! Check out the series Warrior on Cinemax and show your support. Warrior is based on the writings of Sijo Bruce Lee. Those writings we’re the inspiration for the television show Kung Fu. However because of the lack of equality in Hollywood at the time Bruce was not given the lead role and the idea for the show was taken from him. Today, while we are seeing more Asian focused projects on TV and the movies we are still not there as far as equality. Asians are probably still the most unrepresented racial group on TV in America today. Be a force for change and show your support for All things APA. Happy Asian heritage month!
