An evening for general counsel, chief legal officers, partners, legal operations leaders, and women in law to talk honestly about the parts of this job nobody puts in writing. The mental load, the isolation, the pressure to have every answer, and the things you were never trained for but became the best person in the room to handle anyway.

What does it really take to go from associate to partner?

It’s one of those questions lawyers find themselves explaining again and again because the path looks very different when you’ve actually lived it.

What changes when you move from executing the work to leading it? How does your role evolve? And what does it take to make that transition successfully?

For our upcoming panel, From Associate to Partner, we’re bringing together experienced legal professionals to share the lessons, challenges, and perspectives they’ve gained along the way.

Meet our panelists and join us to hear how they see the journey from associate to partner differently ⚖️

Margaret Hamilton was a lead software engineer during the Apollo 11 mission whose work helped make the Apollo guidance computer reliable enough for a mission where failure could mean death. During the moon landing, the computer began throwing repeated 1202 “executive overflow” alarms. The situation was extremely high-stakes, but Hamilton and her team had designed the software so that it could prioritize critical tasks and recover rather than simply crash.

The stereotype that women are too “highly sensitive” or emotionally overwhelmed to perform under extreme pressure doesn't fit this kind of situation at all. Hamilton's work illustrates something more useful: high-stakes performance depends much more on preparation, expertise, judgment, and the ability to act under uncertainty than on gender.

Join us for more stories and tips for how to avoid burnout and increase your confidence during high-stakes situations you face everyday 👇

“You need to work hard now so you can have a better life later.”

The advice I’d give instead:
Be ambitious about the work you want to become excellent at, not about how much of your life you can surrender to your job.

That’s exactly why we are excited about this month’s events. There are opportunities to step away from the monotonous daily tasks, meet other people feelings how you feel, learn something new, and build your career with practical advice from those who have been though it before.

Here’s what’s coming up:
