It's Giving Tuesday! NJF runs a free training program for low income community members. At all times we have at least 10 people coming to the gym for free, whenever they want, as often as they want. This progam is funded through....me, and any generous donations anyone wants to give to the program.

Ways to give:
Just donate
Go the to store and buy a class, a pack, or a gift certificate and email that it's for the donation program
Tell a low income friend that they can go train for free if they send me an email. Giving isn't just to the program, feel free to give the info on the program to someone who would benefit. That's also def giving.

So you know how I try to modify everything for your injuries to keep you safe? Guess what I'm Batman.

By which I mean you're going to see me on crutches and in a boot for the next six to eight weeks as I've partially torn a ligament and then also badly fractured my ankle. I promise I was being an athletic deity at the time. I hopped a full two feet down onto carpet like the legend that I am. Injured at the bouldering gym when I wasn't even climbing. Epic.

But I have been cleared to train you all! So please still come, I just wanted to be super transparent.

They did say this should've been a lot worse, and it isn't because we do so much lateral work, so go every single one of us. Legends, all.

Happy Birthday to us!!! We made it a year!!! Who knew. One year ago, the reach goal was to get three people to come back (I know, I know, my therapist is on it, apparently "self belief" is a whole thing, shhh).

We are doing a thing! Loads of us! Q***rs and lots of lovely heteros who support the absolute f*ck out of us and our rights and needs. The republicans can suck it.

It can be hard to remember how many people stand with us, especially in these particularly terrifying times. But loads do, and we stand with each other, and we're getting super strong and leaning hard into our badassery and again, the republicans can suck it. *30lb weighted slambell drop which is like a mic drop but hopefully a lil more satisfying cause we're all stressed af*

It's a new year! Let's put all this pressure on ourselves to change entirely as people! Also let's super not do that. No matter the field, there's this cycle called the stages of transformation that humans go through. Remember it's a cycle, that's super key.

Maintenance (you've been doing whatever the new thing is whatever is regularly for you for six months or more)

Then you loop back to another part of the cycle. That isn't failing, it's being human. When it comes to fitness, no one in the history of ever has hit maintenance and then just...stayed there...forever. We get sick. We get injured. We get busy. We get bored. We're human.

Whatever a new year brings for you, whatever changes you want for yourself, stopping and starting isn't failing. Trying again isn't failing. Pausing isn't failing. We're human, everything's a cycle. If you want to work out this year, awesome, would love to see you. If you dip in and out, cool, hard relate. The only thing we should really focus on is doing things because we enjoy them, and finding new ways to enjoy things. Not beating ourselves up for not meeting self imposed limits or expectations that often transcend what it is to be human.

Hope you have a fab year. Be kind to yourself.

If you're heading into some time off:

The body loves recovery and rest. Not working out can be a great idea.

That said, if I'm with family, I personally need to work out some frustrations, so the gym is closed Dec 25, 26 and Jan 1, but otherwise running as normal.

Mostly though, be decadent, be kind to yourself, you're allowed and indeed are meant to have boundaries. And if you can't be around family for whatever reason, those are some hard feels but some common ones. If you want to come be around people, we got you in those classes.
