I received this picture from a client requesting that I reassemble the glove. The brief response is that it cannot be assembled correctly manually. A more detailed explanation is that most of the glove's lace is a single piece, making it essential to identify the correct sequence of holes to thread the lace through. Specifically, the internal lacing presents a significant challenge due to limited accessibility. Typically, gloves are assembled using a machine that precisely secures the internal lacing, ensuring a proper fit and structure of the glove.

This week has been busy, but these gloves are now ready. Below are a couple of gloves with before and after pictures, comprising one fielder's glove and one fastpitch catcher's mitt. The string color varies because the original manufacturer's string was not as thick as our preferred string for relacing. Note that the colored or lighter-colored string tends to strip more than the tan and black leather, leading to thinner strings and potentially faster wear and breakage. Although the gloves look good by using colored string, the quality falls short. Thank you for trusting me to restore your glove to game-ready condition.

Glove Maintenance Tip: Refrain from utilizing shaving cream to maintain your glove's moisture and condition. Contrary to popular belief, natural humidity is sufficient for this purpose. In regions with dry climates, such as northern states, occasional application of water may be necessary to maintain optimal glove condition throughout the year. Shaving cream can actually cause the strings to dry out, leading to weakening and eventual breakage. Similarly, oiling your glove is not recommended, as it may provide temporary benefits in cooler temperatures but ultimately results in the oil being drawn out of the glove as temperatures rise and summer heat sets in. ⚾️

Before and after pictures of a glove we received from a client who had removed the string to replace it with new string. 🆘 A message was sent to assist with restringing the glove as the customer had attempted but was unable to complete the task. Understandably, restringing a glove can be challenging as most of the visible string is actually one continuous string. While some parts are strung separately, the majority is comprised of a single string that begins in one hole and ends in the last hole when done correctly. However, the interior of the thumb and pinky on this particular glove could not be re-strung by hand as the string serves to secure the padding in place, requiring a machine for precision to ensure proper fit. Although the padding remains relatively stable without the string, anchoring it to the glove provides optimal results.

What question do we get asked the most? Do you have colored string? The answer is yes, we can provide it, but we do not recommend colored string and do not offer a guarantee when using it. Tan and black leather strings are the two strongest options we offer. Although colored leather appears attractive, the strings are thinner due to the stripping process used for dyeing, requiring constant effort to maintain tension in the glove. Typically, once tightened, the string will break.
